Geoff,

Let us know if you hear when this special will air OK?

I'll tell you this much...it's their loss for not coming to see you. Really, you would have blown them away with everything you know and have that's Godfather. If the show flops, it's their fault.

Even though the site I found the times shows it to be at 7:00 here on the West Coast, the cable tv guide shows it to be at 10:00 p.m. tonight. So you guys will see it before me. Let me know how it was, if you would.

Man, that special was TERRIBLE. A bunch of hip hop guys trying to be gangsters, Pacino and his character NEVER mentioned (guess because Pacino's likeness isn't in the game), and a really lackluster preview of the game tacked onto the very end that made the game seem like a pedestrian movie-based adaptation. NO mention of building your own character right down to the millimeters of his nostrils, no mention of the free-roaming "sandbox" nature of the game...

I think Geoff could have added so much more to this, but on the otherhand, probably would have ben heavily edited to fit with the pathetic wannabe-gangster theme of the interviewees. I thought this thing was terrible.

Yeah, I only caught the last 15 mins of it live (it's on DVR, tho, for later); it seemed to be all hip hop people from what I saw. I don't think I would've fit in.

Game Head's special on Spike is cool, tho. I met most of those people they're interviewing.

First off, welcome to Eddie Mozzarella!

Second, a comment or two about the TV special. I am not really a game person, but I was interested in the show - and the game itself looks quite interesting, especially from all I've read about it on these boards.

Well, I got about seven or so minutes into the program, and I coudn't take any more. The key word here is "demographics". It seemed obvious, watching the show, who they (whoever "they" really are) are targeting this game for: a young, hip-hop crowd. At least, that's what I am guessing from what I saw on TV. "Gangster" = "Gangsta".

I'll try watching it Sunday night, or maybe I'll just tape it and watch it in small doses.

But, based on what little I did see, I was quite put off (by the show, not the game).

And the producers really should have interviewed JGeoff.

Infamia.

SV - I hope you caught the one that just ended on Spike TV - it had a lot of behind-the-scenes and interviews instead of all the crap the MTV one had.

Yeah, MTV definitely tried to 'black' it up. From what I saw, there was only white guy being interviewed. The rest were rappers and 'gangstas'. I'm definitely not into that shit.

I haven't seen the special on Spike. Looks like I'll have to check Geoff's site for TV times (a page I adore, by the way).

Well I missed the MTV special last night, but judging from the couple reviews here, I didn't miss anything. Just not my cup of tea.

Well, it is MTV - I guess they're shooting for the MTV demographic... The one on Spike was tailored to gamers, so obviously there was a different take on it.

Shoot, I copied all the listings for MTV from here, and I gave the list to my cousin. He's no "gangsta," so I wonder what he thought of the show.

Well, personally I didn't care about their race-- and though I'm not a fan of those guys, I do like 80s and some 90s rap-- but it's just that they had nothing to do with anything. On top of that, they seemed to totally miss the whole point of the morality tale in the Godfather trilogy. Obviously there's a tawdry appeal about mobsters (and if I didn't share in that appeal I wouldn't be so excited about the game), but the GF series is a tragedy, something I don't see Coppolla and Puzo wanting people to emulate (and do it so superficially, either). These guys would have been a lot better off on a Scarface special. They made a class act of a movie series look like a soulless rap video.

Oh, these same guys would certainly be on a Scarface special! Tony Montana is an icon to rappers. And at least that makes sense to me - rising up from the gutters to attain loads of "money, power and women". Let alone the drugs and violence.

Geoffy,

I watched the MTV GF show last night. They showed alot of clips from the movie, one thing I noticed is that Michael wasn't in any of them. I was wondering since you played the game, is he in the game

PS. Just to let you know that I will be buying the game through your site 1st week in April.

Thanks, Miggy!

Michael is in the game, but since they couldn't get Pacino's likeness, they went by the description in the novel... I suppose they couldn't use his footage for TV then... didn't notice actually!

I was thinking the same. Scarface seems more applicable to their situation.

Will the Spike special be on again? If so, when?
