For those of you who owned GT3, and thought it was the greatest driving game ever, you would have been right before two weeks ago. GT4 is the best driving game I have ever played. It takes every element of its predesescor and makes it much better. Here are some examples...

-Graphics are greatly improved
-List of cars is bigger and expands to trucks and vintage cars
-More upgrade options
-Director Mode which allows user to sit back and give orders (Will come in handy for endurance races no doubt)

I have had it for a day and already I cant stop playing.

I picked this game up last night when I got off work. I hadn't played since the first Gran Turismo, and this game has been getting mad hype as of late. I was in need of a new driving game, so why not go with what's deemed "the best." I bought it, popped it in, and ended up getting about 4 hours of sleep last night, because I couldn't stop playing. It's incredible. AND THEY GOT THE NEW MUSTANG!!!

This is probably the best driving game I have ever played, but the average game enthusiast might not appreciate it because its realistically difficult. I have no idea why I stopped playing it. I was playing GTA, then bought this and played this for a couple of months, and then I just stopped for no reason. I think I might pick it up again.

It's "realistic" to an extent. I always found that the no-damage was very foolish, because it doesn't punish a driver who is wreckless with his car.

I prefer "Gran Prix Challenge" for PS2. The graphics might not be as photorealistic as GT4, but I would certainly think it offeres a damn close realistic experience. It is an F1 game though, so your car choices clearly are limited in comparison to GT4.

The reason why there is no damage is because the cars look EXACTLY like the real things down to the very last detail. This is because the car companies cooperated and allowed such realism in a video game. The only catch was that no visible damage be shown to the cars. Its a small price to pay if you ask me.

Also to add in a damage system the game would have been delayed even more.

I also think it's retarded though. I don't care if it delays and whatnot. Also, I don't think it should be just "cosmetic" damage - there should be functional damage involved for those who abuse their cars.

This is why I don't consider the GT series to be truly realistic, because it neglects one of the most important rules of racing: He who takes care of his car will have his car take car of him on the last lap.

They would have added damage to the cars if the car companies would have allowed it. But as someone mentioned above, the cars themselves are replicated to the most minute detail. Companies don't really care if their cars get smashed up in other games, because they only "kind of" look like their real-life counterpart. Car companies are very particular about how their vehicles are represented in games. It sucks for us in the long run.

BTW, I've heard that Forza Motorsport on Xbox is better than GT4. Granted, GT4 has a bazillion more cars than Forza, but it doesn't have Ferraris. Forza has them, as well as online play. I'm still pissed that Sony pulled it's online support from GT4.

Forza is damn fun but it's still no GT4. I agree with Double-J on having a little damage. Even just tires getting worn out would have been cool.

Is Forza also available for PS2?

I can understand the points about the cars, though I think that is pretty silly, which is why I still refuse to call the Gran Turismo series the "ultimate racing simulator" until that happens. Damage happens. It's a major part of racing.

Then again, I prefer "organized" racing games (F1, NASCAR) as opposed to racing ordinary cars, but I still had fun with GT3.

BTW - does anyboy know of a good NASCAR game for PS2? I used to play the Pheonix/Sierra Studios NASCAR sims for my PC, but was disappointed when I learned that EA took over the licensing for the series. I hear that many of the games are not sims, but more arcadey. Does anybody know about that? [/too_lazy_to_search_IGN]
