I just read this in EGM, here's the exact article:

Electronic Gaming Monthly, April 2004, Issue 117:

Page 66 from The Rumor Mill, by the Q-Mann

Digital Godfather

Take EA Games' ability to churn out quality licenced games and its lack of an entry in the burgeoning mafia/gangster genre, and it's not hard to believe this next rumor. If what the Q hears is correct, the company is planning a title based on Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 epic film, The Godfather, (and its sequels). Sounds interesting...

I dunno about the rest of ya, but that sounds like it could actually work. EA did an excellent job with the Lord of the Rings games, there's no reason they couldn't do The Godfather justice. Also, it'd probably be much better than the subpar console versions of Mafia. Any thoughts?

Interesting news and I'll pick up that magazine for the article. I hope they don't cheat the movie though and make a cheap off video game.

Thats awesome.I hope they dont fuck up the movies. Is it going to follow the movie's storyline? This brings up an interesting point, they're releasing or rereleasing all this Godfather stuff(new book, video game,Pt 1 dvd) Could they be building hype for a Part 4?

What could they possible make a game out of for The Godfather? I mean, it's not an action movie...sure, you could essentially replay the entire film as one of the characters, but what's the point? Why not watch the film?

Double-J, gamer since the days of 8-Bit Nintendo, the original ATARI, and Commodore 64 says "thumbs down" on any Godfather related game.

To be honest, I think one of the only ways a game of this nature could be a success is if you played as a soldier or button in the Corleone family, possibly taking orders from the likes of Tessio, Clemenza, or Sonny. As you work your way up, certain parts of the film will play out, and you'll be able to take part in them. Like maybe the war the Tattaglia and Corleone families fought after the killing of Sollozzo and McKlusky. Remember, the game wouldn't have to exactly replicate the films, just intertwine with the existing story. If the developers went by this, the game could actually work.

Not a chance. How could you make a game out of the Godfather? Sit in a study and order hits? Sure, it's a great movie, but as a game it would be terrible.

Well what sort of game would you guys like to see? Personally I would like to see

Strategic/FPS like MAFIA sorta was but with a little less linear story. You could play Michael in some parts but in other Neri & or other buttonmen to carry out actual orders. It could turn out to be a very interesting game but from EA's trackrecord I wouldnt really expect much but with a game which could be so popular they might make one of thier 'finer' releases.
