try to name as many brands (of clothes/ food/ drinks/ materials/etc) as you can that youve seen in the show!

Example:

Marlboro (christopher's cigarettes)
Coca Cola (drunk by mostly everyone in the show)
Fila (bobby bacala's velour tracksuits)
Nike ( christopher's windbreaker tracksuits)
Tropicana (Tony's preferred orange juice)

In season 5 Tony gets Tony B a cellphone. Even going as far as to making the remark: "Motorola. Supposed to be the best right?"

Do TV shows get paid by these companies to place products in the show? Especially in my example with one of the characters saying that the product is "supposed to be the best". And if TV shows are getting a profit of this, do you think that its right?

Hey, Capo! Yeah, it's been a long time. Well, not that I ever posted too much before anyway! Anyway, I moved out to college this fall at the University of Northern Iowa, (middle of the US). I guess I havent had too much time to stop by the old gangsterBB. But hey, ive been a member for almost 4 years so forgive me eh? I just saw myself again in the members photo album and the pic was like 3 years old.(I was like "Wow!")
It's good to see the BB thriving the way it is. But yeah, im going to try to stick around a little longer this time!

Good ol' Cedar Falls. I have friends who live there. I live in south-eastern Iowa.

I know that over here in the UK it's not allowed, anyone guilty of "product placement" can get massive fines from the ITC. I don't know how it works with foreign made TV shows, i.e. stuff from the USA like the Sopranos, I'm assuming there isn't much they can do about it.
If you ever see Knowing Me, Knowing You, with Alan Partridge, (Particularly Knowing Me, Knowing Yule) you'll learn about the potential consequences of product placement

Its literally on in the background right now on my TV as I read your message. The episode is "he is risen". I'm a teacher and before school starts in a week I'm like on a Soprano's binge before the real world hits me again.

My first ever post here, I just had to comment on this. I love this show, I have every single episode on tape, including the "second season" I'm Alan Partridge. Steve Coogan is so funny..

To return to the brands, remember when Johnny Sack got that Maserati? That episode was practically a car comercial.

Glock, Ruger, Remington, Smith & Wesson.

Tony only 'test drives' an SL600, he never bought it, though Carmella does drive an E320.

In season 5 there is an episode where you see a crate in the Bada Bing of Stella Artois, an excellent Belgian beer i think.

Absolutely! It's a BIG business for TV and films. You can see it on certain TV series where they only use one manufacturer's line of cars, or where someone lights up a cigarette and the camera zeroes in on the box. If you watch "Sex in the City" reruns, notice how, every time Carrie's working on her computer, you see the Apple logo. And in most films of the Eighties and Nineties, any wired phone shown will have a prominent AT&T logo--in places on the phone where the logo isn't included in the real world.

It looked like they were eating Heinz Ketchup in "Pine Barron". You know, when Paulie and Christopher were stuck in the van eating ketchup packets?

If I'm not mistaken the ketchup (and relish packets) came out of a "Nathan's" bag. ("Nathan's" is a chain of restaurants in the NY metro area selling awesome hot dogs).

Very true. For example, all the cars on The Andy Griffith Show were Fords. Also, promoting a consumable generally. For example, having a character light up a cigarette to promote smoking. Near the end of Superman Returns, Lois goes outside and lights up a cigarette. I thought that was totally out of character with the last part of the film.

Isn't Nathan's on Coney Island and known as the premier hot dog place in the world? I didn't know it spawned a chain.
