If you remember, there was a time gap between Michael's death and his daughter's death(based on the way he looked before he died, mainly his hair color). Therefore, part 4 will most likely take place during that time period.

I thought in the Bonus Features, Puzo says he began writing a part IV and it was about Santino making his bones in the family.

I rented part 3 on DVD last week from movie gallery but the bonus disc was only included in part 1 DVD box(Why don't they just make it where renting the DVD collection is equivlent to renting one DVD. Like what they did with the Indy Jones trilogy). But when I rented Part 1 I didn't watch much of the bonus disc, so I didn't see the part you were talking about.

What could possibly happen in this time period? Michael is a senile old man, and Vincent runs the family...

I had read somewhere the GF4 was going to be about a nether time in the Corleone era. I believe it had to do with the period of time between 1925-1945.

Therefore, we would supposedly see the Don's children in various stages of growing up plus how Don Vito became so strong.
