I read a part of his Book, he says He didn`t change, he doesn`t have any psychologic problems or trauma, and other thing, that his 6 year life in the Mafia didn`t change him, personally I don`t buy it, I prefer to believe the movie when Johnny Depp shows an amazing change in his behavior with his wife.

my question is, what happened with the 500.000 dollar open contract to kill him? did it expire?
Nobody in the Mafia is interested no more to get his head?

Can Pistone life his life without danger?

How could he write a book with Bill Bonanno?

How did Bill Bonanno get a pass from the Mafia?
You come in alive and you go out dead?or alive?

As Turnbull has pointed out many many times when the subject of Pistone comes up, maybe Pistone made that $500,000 price tag story up, to promote himself and his book. It does make for a more interesting story when you think about it.

The average person will say to themselves:

"Wow! This guy has a $500,000 contract out on him and he's still writing a book and walking around. What an interesting guy!"

Thank you, DC!
And just to add a point that I posted on this question earlier:
The only things that Mafia bosses have in common are greed, and distrust of each other. The Commission doesn't have a war chest and an army to use for "common enterprises" like whacking Pistone, because no one would contribute money or men to it. If someone on the Commission tried to take up a collection to whack Pistone, the likely response from the other Dons would be, "Why should I contribute a dime to solving a problem that the Bonannos caused through their own stupidity? Let them put their own house in order."

I imagine though, would be a great opportunity for an ideal associate or soldier, who wishes to be made to impress the bosses. I'm sure the younger guys wouldn't mind trying to kill Joseph Pistone.

Didn't American Cosa Nostra have a rule against kiling police, unlike the Sicillian LCN?

Maybe that is why they never tried to move against him.

Maybe it's just too high profile.

But, How does Donnie Brasco to avoid the attacks? Can he live quiet?

I agree some associate who wants to be made or a soldier who wants to get a higher rank as caporegime or later Underboss or consigliere and future Boss would like to have the chance to kill Joseph D Pistone.

There is a rule about not killing cops or FBI agents, but I guess with Pistone they made an exception, that`s why they offered a 500.000 dollar reward.

Do you really think that anyone today cares about Pistone?

Those who were affected by what Pistone did are old and dying in jail, already dead, or have turned rat.

No one that is left today is looking to make a name for himself by killing a cop or an FBI agent. There are many other ways to make a name for yourself without bringing that kind of heat on everyone.

Killing a cop or an FBI agent is " Bad for Business."

Also, DPN, you're missing the point that Don Cardi and I are trying to make: We think it's at least possible (and I think it's likely) that Pistone invented the $500,000 "contract" to generate interest in his books.

Now I got you both...

even though most of the people involved with Donnie Brasco are dead, in jail or becoming rats, if I were him, I don`t know if I could live quiet. I know what Don Cardi says about nobody cares about Pistone, but I would not put my hands on fire for that...at least is my opinion...

Pistone made this up. They actually considered killing him for a while, but the matter was very quickly dropped - certainly before Woodley wrote the book.

It's quite pathetic that Pistone STILL talks about the "contract" and sometimes actually claims that it's still "open"... although I seem to recall that a while ago, after Jerry Capeci had ridiculed him for this silly spin tale, Pistone started backtracking and claiming that what he really meant was that someone unconnected to the mob might go after him to prove himself, hope for a "reward", blah blah blah...

I've been reading "Mafia Dynasty" and I just found this part funny:

Around 1900 "How he (Don Vito Cascio Ferro) had single handedly killed the New York City police detective Joseph Petrosino who had come to Palermo to coordinate an attack on the Honored Society"

I had to reread thinking I saw Pistone

I found it funny at least
