If you read into the history of the Mafia you will come across guys that became rats went into the program or spent time in jail and years later out of nowhere Bam! the hammer falls on em.......
Just remember Willie Bioff the former Chicago pimp that ratted on the likes of Paul Ricca and Johnny Roselli in the Hollywood extortion case in the 30's and 40's....A chicago representative working at a casino in Las Vegas recognized Bioff and this was over tens years later when Willie left his house and turned his car on and BA BOOOOOOOM!!!! He was blown to bits

Joe Batters, I'm not sure where you got your information, but it's not entirely accurate.

At least one source says Bioff couldn't have been HIDING because he was actually WORKING in Las Vegas for Gus Greenbaum, Chicago's hand-picked casino boss. That's awfully bold for a guy who's information led to the indictment and convictions of virtually the entire upper-tier of the Chicago mob.

He wasn't in the Witness Protection Program. That program didn't exist in Bioff's day. And Bioff lived a long time after his grand jury testimony. Why? Nobody seems to know. I don't know the details of the trial...was it possible the convictions were gotten WITHOUT exposing Bioff's involvement? That seems like the only logical explanation.

It's also possible that the boys were so pre-occupied with their political deal-making to get out of jail that Bioff was a low priority.

On Rick Porrello's American Mafia web site, there are two great articles about Bioff's involvement in the entertainment industry and his connection to Arizona politics. Both articles are by John Tuohy and the first article is about "mobbing-up" the entertainment unions.

Tuohy also wrote this great article on Barry Goldwater\'s connection to Bioff and offers a different theory about Bioff's death. Maybe the mob saw a chance to exact some financial revenge before they actually killed him. When Bioff threatened to run to the Feds, that was the last straw.

Being in jail is the only choice you could have if you become a ratt, even you are not safe. Joey Massino has a life sentence, he is lucky, if he is ever released...I don`t know, Joe DeFede is safe in prison too, he said "much better to be alive in jail than dead in the streets"
