Why was Paulie killed? Someone had said he "sold off the old man" That was when Santino ordered Clemenza to have him killed.

I knew Paulie sold out the Don and got whacked for it, but I don't remember anything about his being into drugs. Is there a reference to that?

The novel explains about Paulie Gatto's drug addictions. He also explained that his superior's were strongly against this.

I'm drawing a blank on Clemenza's statement that Paulie was into drugs. Can you elaborate b/c I don't remember that? He was certainly killed for betraying Vito, but I can't recall the drug thing mentioned in the novel.

Only in the novel, not in the movie, is Pauli associated with drugs. He was a punk of a wise guy. Remember the wedding scene when he is eyeing the silk purse into which Connie is stuffing money gifts from wedding guests? Remember how he looks at the purse and says "Sfortunata, if this were somebody else's wedding." A weasel of the supreme kind, he betrayed the Don by absenting himself on more than one occasion as the Don's driver.

He actually set The Don up! It is explained in a deleted scene on the DVD. The Corleone's connection in the phone company traced phone calls made and found that Paulie was the one who set up Don Vito.
