I was curious..in Goodfellas, Henry Hill and Jimmy Conway couldnt become made becasue they werent according to Henry, 100% Italian from the Old Country. Yet in Donnie Brasco, Lefty was going to propose Donne Brasco for membership even though he was an orphan. Both stories were true stories..so how could Donnie Brasco be made and Henry not be made. had they determined that Donnie Brasco's parents 100% Italian or did that just apply to the 60's Mafia?

First, "Brasco" said he was Italian on both sides, and in the book, there was a scene in which he had a connected guy who was secretly cooperating with the FBI vouch for him. The guy didn't necessarily tell "Brasco's" associates that he was Italian on both sides, but they might have inferred it. And both Lefty and Sonny Black really liked "Brasco," so they were probably not too anxious to look too hard at the guy's background. Second, the rules can change. Yes, in "Goodfellas" and in the book, "Wiseguy," Henry Hill said you had to be Italian on both sides to get "made," but that was when the books were closed. In his new book, "The Way of the Wiseguy," Joe (Donnie Brasco) Pistone says that now only your father has to be Italian to be made. Third, Sicilian parentage hasn't been a requirement for getting made in the American Mafia since the early Twenties.
