after reading the newest weekly gangland news article, it seems during Massinos current trial that gangland has learned Carmine Galante was never actually the boss of the Bonanno crime family, but only a capo looking to take the top spot from rastelli while he was in the can, or something like that. I wonder what other misinformation we may not know about lingers in the underworld and will never be discovered .

There's some confusion about this because of the chaos that afflicted the Bonanno Family following Joe's "kidnapping" and the subsequent musical chairs among Dons. Part of the confusion is that Rusty Rastelli apparently served two terms as Don. The first one (1973-74) ended when he went to prison--which coincided with Galante getting out of prison. Depending on which source you read, Rastelli either resigned in favor of Galante, or was pushed aside after his stepson was whacked, apparently on Galante's orders. Then Galante served as Don until 1979, when he was whacked, whereupon Rastelli took over again. When he died in '91, Joey Massino took over.
