I am going to new york and i was wondering what are some famous sites. I heard Gotti's old hang out is Da Nico? Any other sites of importance in Little Italy and around New York worth stopping... I was also wondering where the scence in godfather took place - when michael kills the chief and the mobster. thanks

In addition to the link that Remember Vito Andolini posted, you might try http://www.ganglandnews.com. Try to find the site of the Ravenite Social Club (Gotti's hangout) and Ferrara's pastries (where Carlo Gambino visited when he was holding court in Little Italy). Also look for Cafe Biondo, which was the HQ for Joe Butch Corrao, one of Paul Castellano's top lieutenants. (Very little is left of the former Little Italy: Chinatown has encroached on it. FFC used part of the East Village, a primarily Polish/Ukrainian neighborhood, as the site for his early Little Italy of young Vito.)

All good suggestions and links. Yes, definitely Umberto's in Little Italy and Spark's Steak House on the Upper East Side. Also try a couple of old Gambino "conference" hangouts, Café El Biondo at 141 Mulberry Street, and of course Ferrara’s pastry shop on Grand Avenue (simply a treat in and of itself). A friend took me recently to Little Charlie's at 19 Kenmore Street between the Bowery and Elizabeth (very casual, inexpensive, homey). My friend told me it had been a Gambino "conference" hangout and showed me the back room where such meetings supposedly took place, and although I haven't been able to find any verification of that, it's certainly possible.

"You know any good-a spots on the West Side?" Although there are plenty of great Italian restaurants on the West Side of Manhattan, I haven't really been able to find any info on any that were, uh, "connected." Anyone?
