I have some questions for my GFIV outline.

1.In what year did the Castellamarense war started.

2.How many men killed Masseria and what kind of guns they used(What year too)?

3.How many killed Maranzano and with what guns?(year too)

4.What is a bookie?

5.What word did Pentangeli said: Clemenza promised em...(what?)

Hi,
A bookie is someone who takes numbers. Maranzano was killed supposedly in his office by guys posing as IRS agents. I believe they used pistols(The Gangster Chronicles). Mazzaria was shot to death with shotguns in a restaurant while he ate with Charlie Luciano(The Gangster Chronicles). Bugsy Siegel may have been one of the shooters. I mention this show because it seemed like the most accurate of all.

The Castellemmarese War ran from 1930-31. Started when Joe (the Boss)Masseria declared himself capo di tutti capi and demanded tributes from Castellemmarese families around the country. He was resisted by Salvatore Maranzano, the Castellemmarese boss in Brooklyn (Joe Bonanno's family). Maranzano won when he flattered, cajoled and tortured Charlie Luciano (Masseria's #2 man) into betraying his boss. Luciano invited Masseria to a relaxing afternoon of lunch and cards at Scarpato's Restaurant in Coney Island (Brooklyn, NY). Charlie excused himself to go to the mens' room. A troop of shooters put together by Meyer Lansky (and including Bugsy Siegel and Abraham (Bo) Weinberg, Dutch Schultz's top lieutenant) entered and killed him, leaving the ace of spades in his hand.
Maranzano made Luciano boss of Masseria's family. Then he committed a fatal mistake: he called a meeting of 600 NYC-area mafiosi, declared himself capo di tutti capi, and demanded a monthy tribute from all of them. The younger dons appealed to Luciano, who reached for Lansky again. Lansky put together another gang of shooters headed by Samuel (Red) Levine. Flashing phony "Treasury Agent" badges, they burst into Maranzano's office in the Grand Central building and demanded to see his books. As he complied, they shot and stabbed him to death. Ironically: as they fled down the stairs, a free-lance killer, Vincent (Mad Dog) Coll, was on his way up to Maranzano's office to get his last instructions--Maranzano had hired him to kill Luciano (that's why they called him Lucky).
Pentangeli told Michael that "Clemenza promised them [the Rosatos] ugaz." " That expression means, figuratively, f**k you. In this context, it means that Clemenza told the Rosatos to f**k off.

That means that Moses Greenebaum(Moe Greene) would make a killing appearance after all.

.
I thought that was because he survived a hit on his life that did though ruined his face. Instead of turning in the man responsible for it (Masseria) he stayed true to the omerta. Ultimately he got his revenge in the Coney Island killing.

That torture left him with facial scars and a permanently drooping eye. But he eventually agreed to betray Masseria and side with Maranzano. Presumably that's why other writers ascribe the "Lucky" monicker to the escape from Mad Dog Coll.

By the way Turnbull.

Did they kill the assasin at Maranzano's office?
Besides, what guns did they use to kill Masseria? I searched in the websites and they don't say nothing! Maranzano was stabbed AND shot with pistols I think. How many times?

Erin-born Mad Dog Coll survived the Maranzano hit because he was going up in an elevator while the Maranzano hitmen were going down the stairs. But Coll had only a few months to live: he was at war with Dutch Schultz at the time, and Schultz's men caught him in a phone booth on 2/8/32 and whacked him.
The accounts of Maranzano's assassination don't say how many times he was shot or stabbed. I'm assuming they used handguns because the "Treasury agents" would have looked awfully conspicuous carrying rifles or shotguns.

Understood Turnbull but I was talking about Joe Masseria.

So you were, Giorgio. Sorry.
None of the accounts of Masseria's death that I was able to access give any more detail, other than he was "shot to death."
