In 'Donnie Brasco' the film/book about the infiltration of the mafia by the FBI,after the operation ended people were called to answer for letting Donnie Brasco get so close to the family and all it's business. It always amazed me that Dominick 'Sonny Black' Napolitano the captain of the crew they infiltrated went willingly to what was certain death!
He must have known he was going to be executed or did he somehow think he could talk his way out of it?
I read he gave up his jewellery and stuff to his crew before he went.
What would have been the alternative...going on the run with a contract out on him? Still, I dont think I'd have gone to the meeting I'd have legged it what would you have done?

I'm with you on this one. I'd play the old disappearing game.

He lived by the rules and in his head he probably knew he'd one day die by them. He was an old timer and maybe would have thought he could get a pass if he was lucky.

Me? I would have done one. "Cya" I'm out of here.......

Yea, but their whole world is there, they have nothing without the mob. They have no where to go. Their minds have bben brain washed to live and work in that system. Time and time again they make it seems like you can't hide, you can't run, and you can't live without the mob. Remember what happen before...shit they clip guys just to keep it from going up the ladder to them. So what is a guy to do...losers getting screwed by bigger losers....If your that dumb to get into that system your are also to dumb to get out. Us normal people think about being smart enough to run, but we are normal and not the hood mind.

Good point CamillusDon. If I were in that horrific situation I would definitely change my looks and identity then hide somewhere, lol. Though it would be almost impossible to run (depending on the connections and stuff) its worth a try.

I'd have to pull a Cast Away and find a little island somewhere, eat coconuts and beach crabs, and just generally run around in a loincloth.

How right and a different perspective for me. I suppose they work the streets they were brought up on, some have little or no education, and it is all they know.
Like drugs and prostitution and all the other little insiduos things that can take over a mispent life and spiral out of control until maybe you can see no way out?
I think I'll go and open a social services office on mulberry street, do you think I'll last long
