Just read it on USATODAY.COM. I'm afraid that the former head of the Bonanno family, Joseph "Joe Bananas" Bonanno has shuffled off this mortal coil today, Saturday May 11, 2002, and joined the choir invisible. May you truly find the peace you never knew in this life Mr. Bonanno.

At least he's not resting in pieces like some of his cohorts, eh?

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

That guy lived to be 97 years old. That is a long time(for a mobster).

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

Rusty I like you avatar. Wasn't he the guy that was in pennywise? Did you get that pic from Rotten.com?

I'm not up on Mafia history much. But wasn't he the "Banana Wars" guy from the '60s? And, if so, weren't the other bosses getting ready to wipe him out, too? Like I said, I'm obviously not the historian you dudes are, so I welcome anyone who can set the record straight.

PS-Hey, Rusty: what is the deal with your avatar? I can't tell much from the pic. Is he lying in a pool of blood or what? How'd it happen??

If that weren't enough for a career of blunders, his 1983 autobiography was the vital component to Rudolph Giuliani's prosecution of the NYC Commission, because Bonnano admitted to its existance and its inner machinations. He ended up sending his friends to prison for 100+ years where they would all die.

Garbage is what he was.
Rusty you are 100% correct. About this guy, in the world in which he lived you are suppose to be low key, a very private person. The book which he wrote(or helped write) is anything BUT LOW KEY. IMHO Joseph Bonnano, was nothing but a self serving idiot, who wanted to cash in on his fame.

I don't see an avatar for Rusty? Last time I aske dhim he seaid he was waiitng for something special.

Someone said Bonanno rated on his FRIENDS.

Friends? Was John Gotti even ALIVE during Bonanno's heyday in the 50's?

I doubt later guyns like Persico/ Salerno/Gotti/Gravano/Corallo/Gigante/Castellano were his FRIENDS.

He was 75 to Gotti's 40?

I can't belive he finally died!

I JUST got Bill Bonanno's Bound By Honor on Tuesday and was waiting to read it, he died over the weekend! Poor Joe (Yes, I know he was a ruthless Mafia Don, but....so was everybody else, at least he was liked and respected, Unlike Gotti)

Well rusty, not trying to defend Joe Bonnano or anything. But regarding the drug issue, you can't really blame that on him or Carmine Galante. it was the kids choice to use the drugs, noeone forced them to. They just saw BIG MONEY in the drug racket.

I know you're new here, so take my criticism constuctively. If you're going to disagree with another member's postings it would be a good idea to explain WHY you disagree, instead of simply posting a message like that (above).
