I've been thinking about this for the past couple days...it's hard to say whether or not Sonny would've had Fredo killed. But it seemed to me that despite his temper and agressiveness, Sonny was a real family guy and I don't think he'd ever have a family member killed, even if he did betray him.

I agree. Sonny was hot-headed, but that hot-headedness might have saved Fredo's life. He would have gone berserk, beaten Fredo to a pulp--and then have let the storm pass. Michael was cold, calculating, long-term deadlier.

...beaten to pulp and hence kill Fredo lol
Remember how carlo got beaten with the trash can. He was lucky not to die there of some internal injuries !

Sonny would have beaten Fredo so terribly it would have made what he did to Carlo look like a peck on the cheek.

Having said that, I doubt Sonny would have had the insight to notice Fredo's slip of the tongue over Johnny Ola, he'd have been too busy figuring out whether Superman was bigger than his own.

I think Sonny was mostly bluster, and he wasn't nearly as cold-hearted as Michael. I think that he lacked the ruthlessness necessary to carry out a hit on his brother.

I dont think Sonny would have killed Fredo and I know he wasnt as cold hearted but I would say he was just as ruthless. The book makes it clearly and theres a scene in the film when Hagen asks Sonny "Are you enjoying the reputation your getting?"

I think Fredo had more respect to Sonny than to Mickey. So maybe he would never betrayed the Family.

He saw Mike as "his little brother"
