Someone posted earlier about the Government and the Mafia. During WWII our Governement called on The Mafia to help them protect the Docks in NYC from spies! The Government felt that being the Mob controlled the waterfront, they could help them in revealing / keeping out spies! Eventually, Meyer Lansky approached the U.S. Government and offered a deal. In exchange for help from the Mob with both the Waterfront, and the U.S.invasion of Italy, the Governement would release Charlie "Lucky" Luciano from jail. The Mob helped the Government with inside information involving the terrains of Italy, and eventually Luciano was released from prison. So right there, it goes to show you that when it was convenient for government officials back then, they would resort to using the Mob to help them get what they wanted! On the other hand, no one could have been as brilliant as Meyer Lansky in putting together the whole deal and get Lucky Luciano freed from a 50 year sentence!

Well, Charlie Lucky was at least deported back to Italia. And Don Cardi you are right on about Meyer Lansky's genius. Also it has been alleged that Don Vito Genovese played a crucial role in the Allied Powers invasion of Sicilia. But if you want to talk about the Mafia getting used by the government, don't forget the name Kennedy. "If history has taught us anything, it's that we can kill anyone."
Power wears out those who do not have it.

The Kennedy assasination, from what i read was a conspiracy of many groups and organizations the mafia, that plotted to kill JFK. From what I understand and beleive is that the Mafia in know way could ever cover that up without the help of a stronger group.....important members in the US government.

The mob also controlled the Nazi's in Sicily from overpowering the country. Lucannio was deported, regardless.

Don Cardi http://www.gangsterbb.net/threads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=660062#Post660062^^^ in this thread i posted some articles written by various writters about the mob connection in WWII,the docks, invasion on Sicily and Don Vito's stay in Italy and the drug connection....and the thing is,there are ppl still dont belive that there was a connection and colaboration between the mob and the gov.....many ppl dont understand that there is no goverment with out the mob,the mob is the right hand of the goverment,it was the same 1000 years ago and it's still rollin today
