There's probably a lot more elderly people who are victims of white collar crime than there are elderly people who are victims of violent crime.

I guarantee you there lots more door-to-door salesmen and tradesmen who would have no compunctions about taking advantage of older people. A lot of older people, unfortunately, have no clue about personal finances and it puts a strain on their children knowing that there are sharks out there, much like the guy in the linked story.
