Goodfellas and Casino didn't make their main characters likable people to Scorsese's credit, but I'm aware there are plenty of examples to the contrary.
Actually they made Lefty out to be a pretty decent guy who just happened to be friends with Nicky/Tony Spilotro. Show what he did that made him look "unlikable"? Come to find out he was a rat and had the Feds after him for a few businesses being fire bombed in Miami. No telling how many bad things he did over the years. As for Goodfellas I agree.
