According to a Hadith accepted by orthodox Muslims, Aisha was 6 when she was betrothed to Muhammad and 9 when they married. To be fair, there are "progressive" Muslims who reject that Hadith, but they are a slim minority. In the Salafi Islam common to Saudi Arabia that has spread all over the world it is believed to be true, and you'll see child brides all over the Islamic State (ISIS). To most non-Muslims this is pedophilia, but to them it's normal.
