Schultz´s lawyer, Richard "Dixie" Davis, is most probably responsible for the myth of the purge, claiming more than 30 old mustache petes were knocked out across the country the day Maranzano was killed. This number snowballed later into 50 and more by newspapermen and authors, apparently because they had nothing better to write about.
Dixie claimed he had learned about the purge from one of Schultz´s gunmen Bo Weinberg.

I remember Capeci saying only 4 or 5 connected murders happened within the month of the Maranzano hit nevermind the night only one i can remember is Sam Monaco from NJ.

Yeah. Louis Russo was murdered in NJ the same day as Maranzano, James LaPore in Bronx, and a Philly mobster, Siragusa was killed two weeks after the Maranzano killing. I think there was a fifth too, but his name slips my mind right now.
