That is quite a promotion. Lanni was sponsored by Pietro Inzerillo and made around 2014/2015. He is a big time bookie in the family. He is part of the 18th Avenue crew.

About the guy who runs it....a crackpot who is apparently the "unofficial organ of the Palermo prosecutor's office" ... thus government propaganda.

Not much known about him. He is first mentioned as a associate sitting in on a meeting between Bonanno and Gambino members discussion a debt owned to the Gambino family by a Bonanno associates in the mid 2000s. Then pops up as a bookie around 2008/2009, same time he is involved around another dispute on debt between Colombo and Gambino families over a Gambino associate owing Colombo family money hanging around him during the weekend. Busted with Pietro Inzerillo in 2010 for a gambling site that reached international, identified as a made member in the Gambino family at the time, reliable sources say he was not made at the time. Released and stayed to the shadows. Verified to be a made member in 2015 as recently inducted member in a meet between Gambino, Decavalcante, and Genovese crime family members. Again later identified as a made member in late 2015 between members of Inzerillo clan in the U.S, and unidentified Palermo members. He is close to Pietro Inzerillo, Lorenzo Mannino, Frank Palermi, Tony Gambino and was close to Frank Cali.

Most likely just Lanni's promotion to capo being lost in translation. Capo literally means head anyway and was used to describe the top position in a family before the role, in America, was referred to as boss. At that point capo was used as shorthand for capodecina or caporegime

If so he would be capo of 18th ave? Anyway acccording to the investigators, he would have a stated goal: to strengthen the axis with Palermo.

Idk this doesn't seem like a realistic report. I think its being lost in translation.

^ I am nowhere near the level of in-the-known knowledge some posters have, but for my part I remember a friend of a relative of mine living in the NY area (both of them legit 1 gen Sicilian-Americans) telling me how, although eastern euros are widely known for being excellent in the “Green Card Wedding” schemes, Italians are not that behind.

If you have a clean criminal record (most young connected siggis do, believe it or not) it’s not that hard to get here with a fiance visa and receive a green card in less than a year. If you obtain a GC through marriage you’re eligible for the citizenship test after three years of continuous residency.

Then there’s the whole “skilled worker” visa process. Guys with fake CV making them look like legit professionals (mostly in the restaurant business) who get hired and sponsored by connected people working in the food and service industry.

And of course as a last resort, they can always operate here illegally.

No. Thomas (Not Carlo son) and Salvatore Gambino (not Rosario) names have been dropped as becoming the Capo after Lorenzo Mannino was promoted to Underboss. The 18th Avenue crew is big, we are talking about 15 to 20 made members in that crew with nearly 200 associates split between New York and New Jersey, it also has members from Sicily associated with it. It is one of the three zip crews in the Gambino crime family and by far the largest of them.

Some more information on Joe Lanni, he was arrested in 2000 for practically the same charges in the summer of 2010. According to informants from 2010 to 2015, Joe Lanni and Lorenzo Mannino served as lieutenants to Frank Cali in Brooklyn and Staten Island, while Pietro Inzerillo served as a lieutenant for Frank Cali in New Jersey. Informants are from the Colombo and Lucchese crime families.

As for the article: keep in mind that (save for a limited few knowledgeable reporters) Italian media is blatantly ignorant about the American side of the LCN.

I highly doubt Lanni is the actual boss. If reliable posters positioned him as a capo of the 18th Ave crew (aka the Sicilian faction within the Gambinos) it could mean that he is “in charge” of the American-Sicilian pipeline.

Remember, they labeled Frank Lupoi as someone with a “boss” status when he was arrested a couple of years ago.

Not to mention that top tier Italian news outlets described Gambino soldier Francesco Palmeri as both a “boss” as well as an “underboss” (!) too.

It’s a sad mix of ignorance and media sensationalism.

That's true Francesco Palmeri was also labeled the gambino underboss in Italy. Over there every high ranked mafioso is called a boss. Cali was also called the boss which he never was.

Could it just be good business by the Gambinos to put fakes information out, as a way to confuse LE. Specifically Sigs/Zips, watch the Maxi Trial, the way they speak is an art form in itself. Same goes when guys had to testify before RFK.

Wiseguys/Mafiosi have used misdirection in the past, no way to prove it, just a discussional question.

Thomas Gambino is the son of Giuseppe Gambino, brother to John and Rosario. He is currently locked up. Tommaso Gambino is who keeps popping up, but he is the son of Rosario "Sal" Gambino who is locked up and lives out in Los Angeles. All brothers have a son name Thomas or Tommaso in tradition of their father Tommaso Gambino. Anthony Gambino is Rosario son and brother to Tommaso. Salvatore Gambino is either a brother to Thomas Gambino or a cousin to them.

John Gambino son Tommy works at Ferraro foods, is not made but acts like it. Tommaso is made, was involved in the Merlino/Stanfa war, approach Bill Clinton's brother to get his dad and uncles a presidential pardon, but that was a waste of money in gifts, he is a tremendous earner. Thomas Gambino son of Joe was proposed for membership nearly a decade or it might have been a different Fat Tommy.
