Soprano/ Gualtieri crew:
Tony Soprano took over the crew following his father’s death. By 1999 (season 1), the crew consisted of Tony (as capo), Pussy Bonpensiero, Silvio Dante and Paulie Gualtieri. Following the conflict between Tony and Junior, Tony became ‘street boss’ but retained direct control of his crew. Gigi Cestone was transferred over, Tony became ‘underboss/ street boss’ (per FBI charts from season 3), Sil became consigliere and Paulie became capo of Gigi and Pussy. Furio came over from Naples and was identified by the FBI as a soldier (per season 3 charts), however Furio was a member of the Camorra, and was never seen being inducted into the family after the books opened in 2001. Pussy was killed, Pat Parisi was transferred into the crew to keep an eye on him and Chris Moltisanti was inducted in season 3. Gigi is made capo of the Aprile crew so at this point the Soprano/ Gualtieri crew consists of Paulie (capo), Chris and Pat. This is the way the crew remains until the start of season 6, by which point Chris has been promoted to capo of his own crew. Pat remains the sole soldier of the Gualtieri crew until Burt Gervasi is inducted. Following Chris’ death in 2007, Benny Fazio is transferred to the Gualtieri crew. Burt is killed shortly after and, by the end of the show, Paulie is given control of Carlo Gervasi’s crew. At this point (due to attrition in membership), the Gualtieri crew consists now of the remnants of the Aprile/ Cifaretto, Altieri/ Gervasi and Moltisanti crews.

Junior Soprano crew:
Junior retained control of his crew after becoming boss in 1999, however, following the conflict with Tony, Philly Parisi was briefly made capo until being killed at the start of season 2. At this point, Junior was released form prison under house arrest to await trial on his RICO indictment and oversaw his crew directly. Murf Lupo and then Bobby Baccalieri were selected to run the crew on Junior’s behalf as high-ranking soldiers rather than official capos (as per Janice’s comments about Bobby not being a captain at the start of season 6). Regardless of rank, Bobby was still present for many high-ranking meetings and at the start of season 6B was made acting underboss by Tony. It’s unclear whether Bobby was promoted to capo following Junior being deposed and put on the shelf in 2006. Crew members Murf Lupo and Tommy DiPalma became inactive during the show due to their old age and senility, Gigi Cestone and Pat Parisi were transferred to other crews, Bobby’s father died, Beppy Sasso and Mikey Palmice were promoted to underboss and consigliere, respectively, with Sasso being imprisoned and Palmice murdered. Chucky Signore, Philly Parisi and Bobby Baccalieri were also murdered over the course of the show. Junior is seen hanging out with several older guys who are suggested to be members of his crew (i.e., by their presence at the dinner where Junior was promoted to boss), but this would inflate the size of Junior’s crew to an absurd 20 members or so. This can be explained away as behind-the-scenes necessity of hiring extras before other actors were cast as the show developed. By the end of season 6, Tony Maffei is seen close to Bobby’s side and delivers tribute directly to Tony, indicating that he is a member (either being made before 1999 or between seasons with Benny Fazio). At this point the only active members of the crew are Beppy Scerbo (still delivering tribute to Junior) and Tony Maffei. No successor to Bobby is named in the show, so the crew could possibly be merged with what remains of the other crews.

Barese crew:
Identified as the ‘largest’ crew in the family by season 2, however it is unclear whether this refers to the number of made members or its strength in associates and money-making ability. The only other confirmed member of the Barese crew is Larry’s cousin Albert, who became acting capo after Larry’s arrest in 1999. The actor who played Albert was arrested between seasons 4 and 5 and, resultingly, fired from the show. Larry was released from prison under house arrest in season 5 but was arrested again in 2007 for violating the terms of his release. After returning to prison, Larry begins cooperating with the FBI, albeit by giving incomplete or inaccurate information, word of which makes it back to the family. It is not explained what happened to Albert, the Barese crew has no impact on the rest of the show and no other members are seen hanging around the Bing or Satriale’s following Larry’s arrest, hinting that the crew could have been disbanded or is simply leaderless. Nicky Spags was seen accompanying Larry to the hospital at the beginning of season 6, but he is simply one of several background characters whose status, be it soldier or associate, is never explained.

Curto crew:
Led by long-time capo and cooperating informant Ray Curto, no other members or associates of the Curto crew are ever seen. Curto’s enthusiastic cooperation gave the FBI an accurate look at the hierarchy of the DiMeo LCN family, particularly the leadership of other crews. Curto died of a stroke at the start of season 6 and his crew, if it consisted of any made men at all, was presumably disbanded as it is never referenced again.

Aprile/ Cifaretto crew:
Originally ran by Richie Aprile before he went to prison, the crew was taken over by his brother Jackie, who presumably continued to oversee his soldiers after becoming acting boss until his death in 1999. The crew was reformed under Richie after his release in 2000, however remained leaderless until season 3 following Richie’s abrupt murder. Eugene Pontecorvo was inducted and became a member of the crew in season 3, and Tony transferred Gigi Cestone to lead the crew rather than promote Eugene, Vito Spatafore or the recently returned from Florida Ralph Cifaretto to capo. Gigi died due to the stress of his new appointment shortly after and Tony reluctantly promoted Ralph to captain. Following Ralph’s murder, Vito becomes captain only for the slow attrition of the crew to continue. In 2006, Eugene, an FBI informant, commits suicide and it is revealed that Vito is a closeted homosexual. Vito goes on the lam and Tony gives the crew’s construction businesses to Carlo Gervasi, eventually merging the two crews, while Vito is murdered by the Lupertazzi family. Beyond the Aprile brothers, Ralph, Vito and Eugene, no other confirmed members are shown and, due to the show’s focus on the crew, it is unlikely that there were other active members. It was visually suggested that Donny K was a soldier when Tony was considering replacements for Gigi, but Donny’s severe and unprovoked beating at the hands of Johnny Sac in season 4 would contradict this. Frank Cipollina was seen delivering an envelope to Richie following his release from prison and was noted for his inability as an earner but was not seen again. Cipollina could have been a soldier who simply became inactive following Richie’s murder, however his status is not known.

Altieri/ Gervasi crew:

Jimmy Altieri was a capo in the family who was killed in 1999 after it was revealed he was a cooperating informant. Leadership of Altieri’s crew remained vacant for the next few years (as confirmed by FBI charts constructed, in part, on information from capo Ray Curto in season 3) until Carlo Gervasi was promoted to capo by the start of season 4. Carlo was also given control of the remnants of the Aprile/ Cifaretto crew after it was revealed that Vito Spatafore was gay. In 2007, Carlo is frequently accompanied by Walden Belfiore, however Belfiore’s status is not clear. If Belfiore was made, he was likely inducted between seasons 5 and 6 with Benny Fazio. There are no other confirmed members of the Altieri/ Gervasi crew and it was merged with the Soprano/ Gualtieri crew after Carlo flipped at the end of season 6. Vinny Pitsaturo and Terry Doria were with the crew, though their behaviour suggested they were associates rather than soldiers.

Moltisanti crew:

Between seasons 5 and 6 Chris Moltisanti was promoted to capo and given his own crew. Benny Fazio, a long-time associate of Moltisanti, was proposed for membership by the end of season 5 and was likely inducted and assigned to Chris between seasons. No other members of the crew were identified and Benny was likely transferred to the Soprano/ Gualtieri crew following Chris’ murder in 2007.
