Still active?? I know he’s in his 80’s but a friend of mine in Long Island mentioned him the other day. Thoughts?

My friends comment was “guys like Sal are still spending money from the 80s”. I found it interesting

Anyone that read mob boss (al D’Arco book) remember the bit where he rings Sal Avellino up after the hotel meeting when he thought he was gonna be whacked? Sal just gives him 1 word responses back which al took as agreement that the others were looking to whack the pair of them. Thoughts? From ALS perspective I can see why he thought it, it did seem dodgy as hell. But it could’ve been nothing at the same time.

Agreed pmac. The responses Sal gave him were like “yeah” etc. He was obviously aware al was on the outs like everyone else treated him. Considering Sal goes back to ducks I bet he has some stories.. When was he made??

yes that picks like 1 2 yrs old. he looks like a boss. he had the famouse tapes in his jaguar if he would allow his kids to follow him in the lcn like ralph scopo and his sons. i wonder if he did. casso and amuso would have killed him after al flipped. he was bumped up to the ruling panel after al flipped.

I don't think that Sal'sons followed their father on the life because in the jaguar tapes Avellino said to Corallo that he doesnt want that his sons would follow hIm and Corallo said something "why we do this life if dont want that our sons follow us?" "Doctors and lawyers want this, why not us?".

theres a great old article on gangland somehwere. he went on stand in one of his trials and testified hes retired from the life. the judge and da made a big fuss and he said did i ever take a vow saying i cant retire and they were stumped on a rebuttal. i wish i could find it happend in the early 2000s. he was already in prison they kept bringing new indictments cause they knew he was in on the double murder of the garbage guys on long island that wouldnt go with the program the 2 innocent guys names escape me.. all there killers are alive and free today except amuso and casso, but the shooters are free and the crash car guys

Always wondered.

What did Anthony Corallo think about Sal Avellino when the tapes were played during the 1985 Commission Trial. Both Ducks and Sal were talking in the jaguar nonstop about business. Think Ducks had a thought about having Sal whacked?

I doubt it because Corallo was the one saying the most damaging things. He was the one yelling “tell them to talk to Fat Tony”.

anyone got a link to any of those jaguar tapes? wish they would release a transcript or something substantial but i guess there's a ton of damaging info in there for more than just mob guys.

I mean if they killed sal it wasn't gonna stop the tapes from being introduced as evidence in the commission trial. They were all talkn reckless in the car. I read Tony ducks was asked about it and he said it wasn't sals fault.

They were also good friends. I doubt Ducks wanted to touch Sal; Plus killing him during the commission trial would have been detrimental to Ducks. He couldn't do anything.. I've always heard; Tony Ducks reigned in and was not fully in control over the family in 85 during his indictments. Alot of guys were able to sway him like Christopher Furnari. Any truth to this?

technically in novenber 1985 tony ducks was the longest tenued boss im thinking well no him and rustelli both became official bosses of there fammily in 1974. i think he seen the writting on the wall. he chose a successor let him be acting boss then stepped down when he went to prison in 87

I still dont understand the Casso and Amuso situiation. How respected was Casso as a captain along with Amuso? Weren't there better candidate's then those two? There had to be... Christy Tick had alot to do with everything with Tony Ducks reigning in and just accepting anything.. Ducks was worried about that trial. Not the family...

Long Island, so he is most likely in his brother's Carmine crew.

Why was he demoted? He's a old timer. Wouldn't the leadership have alot of respect for this man? He's the closest guy on the street that can say he was Corallo's buddy.

He made was sentenced to 10 y in 1994,in this cases the capo is demoted to soldier and someone take his crew;anyway Avellino was sentenced to another 5 y because was running his Long Island waste hauling business from federal prison,so when get out in 2006 the times are chenged.I don't find a chart of his crew but maybe his brother Carmine take the crew.

He testified at his own trial he was saying I'm retired. Then let's his brother be the lightning rod.

Exactly. This guy goes way back to ducks. Not as far back as Aniel migliore though. This guy was picking up tommy three fingers Lucchese from Apalachin. Can you imagine the stories he has? And he is loaded and has never had an interest in admin. position. No wonder the 2 psychos wanted him whacked, Gaspipe could never have someone way more successful as him walking around in the same family. His ego wouldn’t allow it.

Your talking about Migliore right? Amuso and Casso ordered the hit on Migliore, after his conviction was overturned. Casso cause he was afraid and also had a big ego, and Vic cause he felt Migliore had to have giving something up to beat the 24 year sentence.

On Salvatore Avellino, he most likely did retire cause there has not been a peep of him doing crimes unlike Carmine and others in the crew. That crew has some earners or they might belong to John Baudanza crew.

Which Avellino brother was involved in the hit on Kubecka and Barstow over sanitation on LI? I think it was one of them or both

Sal Avellino ordered the hit. Anthony Baratta planned it and used two of his guys, Frank Federico and someone else. Kubecka and Barstow put up a fight. It was a pretty messy hit.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

im guessing the brother carmine is the capo and sal is the bank. the buck stops with carmine. sal openly spoke at one of his trials admitting he took a oath but also theres nothing in the oath that says he cant retire. it stumped the prosecution. hes saying yaeh i took a oath and part said i cant ever be a informer but that oath doesnt say i cant retire. must have ruffled alot of the old guys feathers but he seen the writting on the wall and was smart. got away with a few murders and threw his son and other family probaly still run long islands garbage racket
