Great article, but I find this to be an insane claim, made at 14, but the 30's were a much different time:

Quote
In 1931, Franzese was “straightened out,” or inducted into the mob , when he was just 14, his son John said. But it wasn’t announced until two years later.

Early on, Franzese had an aptitude for crime. By 1935, when he was 18, he said, he was running the largest craps game in New York. A “wise guy” hosted the game, he explained, but “I was the one running it.”

While these are fascinating reads, in my opinion they're definitely romanticizing him and the mafia. This guy killed at least a dozen people, maybe raped too, not too mention all of the legit businesses he probably shook down. Oh well, still interesting to read and see the videos.

Exactly Stubbs. Look we all come here because we are interested in mob history which is terrific BUT its important not to forget who these people really are. Criminals, murderers, and many psychopaths. I mean I cant feel too bad for Sonny when he is caught on tape recalling how he dismembered bodies in a kiddie pool

Amazing read, I would've never guessed Sonny forgave him, makes me feel glad!
I can understand rats, but i could never imagine ratting out my own father no matter what
Like John F and Frank Calabrese Jr.
I still think Frank is a dumbf*ck though, took his tour a couple of years back while I was in Chicago
guy is overwhelming with bulls*it and crappy puns and jokes.

Also, this made me look at John Jr a little differently, he's done good but jeez
I always thought he was just a junkie rat like the media made him out to be, and like I see many government mob witnesses and informants are -- totally egosentric and self interested - they get caught - rats out some other poor sucker who wasn't caught and around it goes.

One of the excerpts of the article that I thought was interesting was the fact that Sonny expressed concern for John Jr's safety due to Indianapolis's proximity to Chicago. Was that an implication that he's worried about Outfit guys coming to look for him?

Definetely! Either he thinks there still is a relevant mob presence in Chicago or he knows something we don't about chicago
