Malaunità (Bad Unity)

we are the children of the sun and of the snow
we are heaven, we are these stones
an anger in the body from a long time ago,
that are burning in our hands for over a century

time of a wind that disturbs the leaves
time of a sea that moves the waves
times of the past, times of today
times that dry and time that wet

hands that write and dirty the story
infamous and murderers who rise in glory
hands that steal our lands and our women
and that demand the taxes of a war

war that kills women and children
and that has reduced our people to hunger
people of love, educated and brilliant
first "brigands" and then emigrants
Hey! are you my brother?

so why kill my people
and put my land on fire
Hey! and so you're my brother?
and don't talk to me about this flag
because I've nothing to do with it

you Piedmont's man, an half French
were ruined by debts and expenses
and have become a great man and a king
with the money of the Neapolitan banks

you did not know neither honor nor decency
you thought only of your self-interest
you said that I was the denial of God [1]
while you stole all my blood

you have been good to invent a war
with the excuse that we are all brothers
and without even a declaration
chased out who was the rightful owner

you have taken away certainties and hopes
in exchange of misery and ignorance
then you left us a great ballast:
ndrangheta, , trash and camorra

[1] William Ewart Gladstone, the english Prime Minister said in 1851 that the Bourbon government was like the "denial of God",he said that after visiting the neapoletan prison but Gladstone, having returned to Naples between 1888 and 1889, would have confessed that he had never been in any jail and had written the two missives on behalf of Lord Palmerston.

Eugenio Bennato - Ninco Nanco

Ninco Nanco when he lives will be a thorn in the side
Ninco Nanco when he dies will be a thorn in the side

1859, the old king Bourbon dies
and on his throne go his son, 23 years, is still a boy.
It's time to take advantage of this power vacuum,
of that kingdom in the middle of the sea defended only by sirens.
And the Bank of Naples is ideal to recoup the costs,
to cover the deficit of the Piedmont finance.

And Ninco Nanco must die because the history so must go
and the South is a land of conquest and Ninco Nanco would rebel,
and Ninco Nanco must die because if he lives could speak
and he speaks could say something good about the South.

Ninco Nanco when he lives will be a thorn in the side
Ninco Nanco when he dies will be a thorn in the side
Ninco Nanco when he lives will be a thorn in the side
Ninco Nanco when he dies will be a thorn in the side

And the Sulfur of Sicily and the shipyards in Castellammare
and silk factories [1] and Gaeta to bomb [2].
It is the ideal that makes war, a declared war
to see who gone win between the gun and the tammurriata,
and that the tammurriata is superstition, it's astory that must end
and here we made the Italy or dies [3] and Ninco Nanco must die.

And to defeat brigandage and inaugurate the emigration
it is necessary to kill courage and Ninco Nanco is better that die.
Because he was born as farmer and killing him is not a crime
and after a shot of revolver they also photographed him [4].
And his soul is already distant, but on his face is the smile,
the last challenge of a brigand: "How beautiful is to die killed"

And Ninco Nanco must die because the history so must go
and the South is a land of conquest and Ninco Nanco would rebel,
and Ninco Nanco must die because if he lives could speak
and he speaks could say something good about the South.

And Ninco Nanco to be eliminated and if he dies who cares,
on his grave not even a flower, no one prays on his grave.

And Ninco Nanco to kill, won't his name mentioned anymore,
will be cursed history, would be cursed this song..

And Ninco Nanco must die because the history so must go
and the South is a land of conquest and Ninco Nanco would rebel,
and Ninco Nanco must die because if he lives could speak
and he speaks could say something good about the South.

and Ninco Nanco must die because if he lives could speak
and he speaks could say something good about the South.

[1] Under the Bourbons of Naples, the south had many industries including the silk factory of San Leucio, the shipyards of Castellamare and the Sicilian sulfur mines, as sulfur was in great demand in the 1800s and the England couldn't control the price financed the fall of the Bourbons of Naples;
[2]With the siege of Gaeta and the fall of the city on February 13, 1861, the whole kingdom of Naples was conquered by the Piedmontese army;
[3] "Qui o si fa l'Italia o si muore" (Or We made the Italy or we die) It's a famous phrase spoken by Garibaldi after landing in Sicily;
[4] The Piedmontese soldiers after killing the brigands, photographed them to show the end that was reserved for those who rebelled. Many alleged brigands were also beheaded by the dead and the heads sent to Turin to Cesare Lombroso to be examined.

In a night of long time ago,
from Spain three knights departed,
and passing from Sicily and Abruzzo
they arrived here in Calabria

twenty years worked underground
to found the social rules
rules of honor,blood and war
major, minor and criminal laws

and these rules of blood and omertà
were handed down from father to son
these are laws of society
laws that have left their mark on the History

Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
It's organized society
Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
Sicly,Naples,Calabria Honored

one morning in the middle of the sea
I saw a small boat sailing
with 5 sails and 7 sailors
one of them asked me

"Young boy,ask what are you looking for"
"Honor and Blood" answered him

just got on this boat
along the way found honor and blood
and they took me in the middle of the sea
on an island named Favignara
oh people that are listening
this is a near and far away land

Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
laws of omertà and honor
Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
and no mercy for those who make mistakes

there was a castle with three rooms
the first was reeks of infamy
in the second three drops of blood
and in the third a body of society

I was recognized as worthy and deserving
and baptized under the tree of science
Honored Circle, I greet you all
I am bound to you until death

I behave like a man for blood and honor
and to chase away the infamous and the traitors
no forgiveness and no mercy
this body of society imposes on me

Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
It's organized society
Nrangheta,Camorra and Mafia
laws of omertà and honor
