Just watched this again...I might be wrong(!) but was Colonel Jessop, Jack Nicholson, not well intended for ordering the code red? It went wrong, but spirit of it was to make a man out of the guy???

This is one of the greatest movies in American history. Great actors, great director (Reiner), great screenplay (Aaron Sorkin). Easily one of Jack Nicholson's top 5 films. It's really sad that what some people take from this movie is a justification for marines killing one of their own who suffered from mental illness. They've completely missed the bus on this one.
"...the successful annihilation of organized crime's subculture in America would rock the 'legitimate' world's foundation, which would ultimately force fundamental social changes and redistributions of wealth and power in this country. Meyer Lansky's dream was to bond the two worlds together so that one could not survive without the other." - Dan E. Moldea
