Happy Passover! Don’t forget to put rams blood on your doorpost tonight, unless your first born is an asshole.
The next day:
"Look at that! What is that? Blood? I can't get it off. I tried asking my neighbors about it, but they're either packing up to leave or making funeral plans. I was supposed to have a buyer look at my place today. He took one look at the blood and left. Now what do I do? Insurance won't cover it. I tried everything: Oxyclean, Mr. Clean, Brillo Pads. Nothing works. Madonne!

An Afghanistan war veteran who had his genitals blown off by a roadside bomb is the recipient of a donated penis and scrotum that doctors hope will restore his ability to function normally, after a 14-hour surgery that doctors hailed as a medical first.
The veteran, who asked to remain anonymous for privacy-related reasons, received the tissue transplant from a team of 11 doctors - nine plastic surgeons and two urological surgeons - at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in March. The procedure was the result of years of research, studies and cadaver work, giving doctors hope that if it proves successful, it could be used for injured veterans and other men with severe injuries to their genital regions.

I always thought the Bruce Springsteen song "Nothing Man" from The Rising was about a 9/11 survivor and/or fireman, but apparently, the song was written before 9/11. One theory I've read is that it's about a soldier who had his penis blown off.
Starbucks will close 150 poorly performing company-operated stores next year, about three times as many as it typically closes. The affected stores are located in mostly urban areas that are densely populated with Starbucks locations.
The company told investors late Tuesday that it expects same-store sales to grow just 1% for the quarter that begins next month, lowering its previous guidance. The stock slumped 3.5% in after-hours trading.

I walk my dog each night in a nearby park. Last night we got out in the parking lot, and I saw a black thing lying across the top of the trash can at the park entrance. We walked over to it, and i saw it was...a violin case. Now anyone who posts on these boards knows what has to be in a stray violin case - a Tommy gun, right? We did about 20 minutes circling the garbage can, coming back periodically to it. No ID, just a plain black violin case. I finally got up the nerve to inspect it. The latches were all open. I opened it ver-r-r-y gently. It was empty.
We left the park and on the way home it hit me: my prints are on the case. I think I'm going to like prison.

I was interested in doing this through Ancestry.com but heard these types of firms were keeping a database of the samples you provide. Once I found that out, I said no thanks. Not that I have anything to hide. But they should not be keeping this without my consent or just in general.

I had the same thought as you.
I watched a documentary on the golden state killer. They had the killer's DNA but it wasn't in the data bank; but a distant relative of his was in the data bank. This led the investigators to narrow the suspects and find the killer. It's amazing what they can now do with DNA.
Anybody have any experience using a safety razor? I've thought about switching before and am currently thinking about it again but wanted to get some feedback from others who have made the switch? Thanks.

I use one. It's the closest shave you'll get but it takes some getting used to and you run the risk of nicking yourself. A styptic pencil is a necessity especially when first starting out, but if you prepare your face properly (lots of warm water and a good shave cream - I use a shave butter and always a fresh blade) you'll do OK. They're harder to use than say an Aftra blade with a lubricating strip but like I said, the safety blades give a better shave. Get a good razor (the part that holds the blade) and some alum is a help. Just go slow.

Thanks SC. How often do you go through blades? I've got the styptic pencil and from the research I've done, it looks like it takes some getting used to. I would be using it on my face and head as well. The razor and blades seem pretty inexpensive. Thinking about just buying what I need, giving it a shot and if I don't like it, switching back.

I-12, since I've retired I no longer shave everyday; more like 1 - 2 times a week, so my usage has of blades has dropped substantially. I buy the double edged blades in packages of one hundred each and that will last me about six months. That package costs me about $12. I shave my head also but I'm not worried about getting a super-close shave there so I use an electric razor for my head. Besides, I'd worry about getting nicks on my noggin. Your facial skin will "toughen up" a little after you shave your face regularly. Plus those blades are easier to use if you trim the top of a mustache like I do.

Yeah, why not? I'd only suggest buying a small box of safety blades first to see if like them. And go very slowly at first so you don't cut up your scalp.

I use a Norelco daily because it's quick. Not as good as a blade shave, though. I've been searching for the perfect blade shave for years. The multi-blade cartridge shavers work best for me. I tried a highly touted safety razor with highly touted blades--not as good as ordinary multi-blade cartridges. Seldom shave with blades now.

I use a Norelco also. It's a manual one. It came with an Allen wrench which inserts into the side of the shaver head to rotate the blades. It takes a while, but it works and saves on electricity. The blades never wear out.

Irishman, the safety razor pulled on the skin, making me back off on pressure, hence not as close or comfortable a shave as with cartridge.

I shaved with my safety razor for the first time today and I got the same thing TB on my face. The razor seemed to pull at my skin, which I didn't like. Although, they say to give it a few times before you get comfortable with it so I'm going to continue with it for now. I shaved my head with it as well and only nicked myself one. But as you said TB, not as close of a shave. Although for a first time, not as bad as I thought it might have been. SC, how long do you use your blades for before switching to the other side of the blade or replacing it outright? I shave my face once a week (I'm lazy with it) but I shave my head about every 3 days just to give you an idea about my usage.

It's important to prepare the face first. The best time to shave is right after a shower when the face is at its "moistest". A good shave butter (instead of canned shaving cream) will help the pulling of the skin. This type of shaving is more labor and time intensive than a disposable cartridge with a lubricating strip. If you use plenty of warm water on your face you'll get used to it pretty quickly.
As far as the time I used one blade - I'd never use a blade more than two times (or two days) when I shaved my face. These blades lose their sharpness and deteriorate pretty quickly. I have to admit that I used a cartridge occasionally when I had to shave fast (i.e. when I overslept and didn't have much time). I liked the Gillette Atra blade with the lubricating strip. But I always felt "cleaner" with the old fashioned safety blade when I had the extra two minutes to shave my face daily. I will use an electric shaver on my head about once a week (more likely once every ten days) but my face warranted a daily shave back then.

Who knew guys paid so much attention to their face grooming. And here I thought guys had it pretty easy. At least you don't have to worry about night creams, make-up, hairdos and such. Ha ha.
Don't worry I'm sure you'll both look cute.
Me, last time I visited my brother in Michigan: "I need to fix my face before we go." My brother: "We don't have all day." All these years later and I still get teased. ha ha

Those days are long gone for me, TIS. Now that I don't HAVE TO shave my face daily, I don't.
I started my old-fashioned method as a memorial to my dad. When I was a young kid I'd love to watch him shave and we'd bond during those times. He bought me a "play" plastic razor and a little cup with soap and a shaving brush so I'd get used to using it. Over the years I let that collection grow to usable items like a real razor, a shaving mug to hold the shaving soap and a good shaving brush to put the soap on with. Then a stand to hold the razor and brush in between shaves. Then a straight edge razor (the kind barbers used to run a leather strap over). And finally some old-fashioned after shaves and colognes (bay rum was the stuff all Brooklyn barbers used back in the day).
Amazing how one gets used to stuff like that.

Thanks for the feedback SC. Yes, this is definitely a slower way to go and more labor intensive. I used a shaving cream on my head but a shaving oil on my face. I'll try the cream on my face next time and see if it helps any with the pulling of the skin. Also, I heard the best time to shave is right after a shower but I always shave pre-shower. I've also heard to wet a hot towel and wrap it around your head to simulate a fresh shower, but I just don't have the time for all of that Wow, only 2 shaves per side per blade? Geez, thought they lasted longer than that. One of the reasons I switched was to cut down on the number of times needed to switch out blades. Although these do seem to be cheaper. 5 came with the razor and I've seen on Amazon I can get a pack of 100 for about $8.

SC, today I tried shaving after the shower and I do feel that's a better shave, so it looks like I'll be doing that from now on. Switched to the other side of the blade. Looks like I might get a week's use out of them. But I saw on Amazon 100 blades for $8, so that's about 2 yeas worth of blades at one a week!

Looks like I might get a week's use out of them. But I saw on Amazon 100 blades for $8, so that's about 2 yeas worth of blades at one a week!
Yeah, it's really not expensive at all when it comes down to it.

I appreciate the feedback. Still getting used to it. Nicked myself again a little (it's the area of my head in the front where it curves that I've been having trouble with). Takes more time too unfortunately but to spend $8 for almost 2 years worth of blades, I'll continue trying to adjust to it.

Hey guys, how are you all doing? I gave up reading about shaving process after a couple of posts and thanked my lucky stars I don't have to shave my face everyday. It totally makes up for not being able to pee standing up.

Irishman, another problem I have with a safety razor is that the edge is too wide to maneuver easily on and around the chin. The smaller cartridge razors get around more easily.

Thanks Turnbull. I have a beard so I just need to trim it but I can definitely see how it would be difficult to maneuver with the safety razor. I primarily use it to shave my head and it can be a little troublesome with that as well. I'm sticking to it. Got 100 blades for about $9 after using the 5 that came with the initial razor. It takes a little longer to shave because I have to be more careful with it. I'm not sure if it gets a closer shave than what I was using prior. But overall, I'm happy with it (mostly due to the low cost of the blades).

I recently went to an awards assembly at my grandson’s elementary school. Believe it or not one of the students in his class, six grade, is actually named Luke Sky Walker. 😂 The teachers enjoy saying his name and the audience always responds. I’m sure his dad must be a Star Wars fan, because he had on a shirt that said “Luke Sky Walker’s Dad.â€

Just throwing in here: I got the Costco brand (Kirkland) razor with disposable cartridges. Triple blades made with "German precision". I've been using them several months, and like them quite a bit so far. I'm very erratic in shaving, have a very heavy beard, and can wipe out a Gillette double blade in one shave. I'm not sure how long the Costco blades last, because I've been disposing of them when I think to do it - I haven't had sign that the edges are beaten up, or had them get clogged with beard. The handle feels substantial and the head swivels. It's a little under $25 for the handle and the first 14 cartridges.

Are ya'll Paesani aware of this CBS Sunday Morning segment about gaining Italian citizenship?
Here's part of it: "Ferretti has found that, unlike U.S. citizenship which is based on where you were born, in Italy it's based on whether your parents had Italian blood in their veins – blood that can run down through the generations, all the way from Phil's immigrant ancestor, to him."
I guess I'm eligible to apply.

Okay fellow Board members, read the following mail from one of my prospective students. The class in which she has enrolled is conducted exclusively online and lasts only 30 days.Try to put yourself in my shoes: how would you respond to this student?
"I am a Dual Credit student taking your Government class over summer. I know the class starts on June 10th, and that until then I will not have access to ... assignments. During the days of June 12-17, I will be on vacation and unavailable to complete any class work during those days. Is there anything you can tell me about the structure of your class? If there is any work I can complete before class starts, I am happy to do so. If not, then I am prepared to make up everything I miss during those days."

I received a Belkin wireless phone charger for my iPhone 8 for Christmas. I really like it. What I want to know is can I leave both the adapter and the pad cord plugged in all the time, or do I have to keep it unplugged? I use it often on throughout the day. The charger isn’t working if there’s not a phone on it right? 🤔
I hope everybody had a Great holiday.

Indeed, I did. My wife and I drove out to AZ and returned Christmas eve. Beautiful out there. The only negative about New Year's Eve is that it signals that we are a year older.

We typically unplug it if we know we are not going to be around or going to use it for awhile.
When we go away for a few days I hit the power strips for every to off.
Only thing I leave on is the fridge and the burner or Air.
I do the same. I unplug my computer, wifi, alarm clock, etc. when I'm out of town for long periods of time. Why have them running up your bill if you're not around?

DP and Irishman, I learned the hard way to unplug hair blow dryers. One day my wife left it plugged in after using it and about 15 minutes later, I smelled smoke.I quickly ran to the bathroom and the dryer was on fire. I unplugged it and immediately put the small fire out with a wet towel. I was reimbursed by ConAir with 2 new blow dryers. Thank God we were home. I learned to always unplug the hair dryer.

Since we're talking about unplugging things for safety: We always shut the water off at the curb when we're going to be away for more than 24 hours. A frozen or leaking water pipe, or refrigerator cold water hose, or clothes dryer connection, can wreak incredible havoc on a home in a short time. We bought our home in AZ in 9/04. When we came out to it the first time three months later, we opened the front door and water poured out. Turned out that a cold spell had frozen a pipe to the hot water heater, resulting in 174,000 gallons of water into our home. Had to vacate it until the following March, when repairs were finished.

Omg 😳 TB that is horrible. I can only imagine the damage. What a nightmare to walk into. I’m not surprise it took so long because water damage takes a lot of time to get rid of.
On a much lighter note tho could’ve been a disaster: years ago when I first moved to my condo , I had purchased one of those foreman grills. Well I had a long drive to work in the lot of times I’d get what I needed set out for when I got home to make dinner. I got the grill out and I plugged it in, I went to work.
Well stupid me, I was thinking there was an off/on switch that I would flip on when I got home from work but there isn’t. it just starts when you plug it in. When I got home from work it was steaming and I could see a little smoke coming out of it but thank God there were no paper towels(which were on the same counter) or anything by it that caught fire but it was going all day long. Could have been a horrible disaster 😉

My folks had a toaster oven, like many people do, and at the time I wasn't yet there every single day to prepare dinner like I am now. But this one day I'm there, and turn the toaster oven on to preheat, and some time later I come back to it and notice a flickering light coming from the exhaust fan (convection fan)... it wasn't a light, it was a flame! Not a flame inside the oven, but a flame inside the actual unit (between its walls) where only I would actually notice it! Of course, I'm just like, "WTF?" and blew it out. But if I wasn't there.......! Of course I notified the manufacturer and got it replaced... and have since replaced it with a different brand altogether -- but it amazes me how nonchalant some manufacturers can be when their shit has the potential to ruin lives!
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol

Had a Bissel Steam cleaner that burned out while using first time, no hazard other than the smell.
They replaced it with a new unit within a few weeks, no issues with new unit. I clean the only two carpets I have in house every month, all other floors are hard woods.
I would rather the entire house hard wood. Don't really need to clean carpets as much but continue to do so so, Miss my Dogs.

Kinda funny watching those camera angles being shot.
I know. Crazy how they were able to attach and detach it and to keep it moving. A lot of planning went in to this movie visually and it showed and paid off in the end!

What do you call this motion that indicates you've gone crazy, perhaps from confinement and boredom? I'm speaking of the thing where someone sticks their index finger between their lips and moves it up and down rapidly to make a blub-blub-blub sound. It seems common in cartoons - how would you find that on YouTube?

Anybody have an Apple Watch or a Fitbit? I'm looking into getting a watch simply to track my workouts. Since Series 4 of the Apple Watch is discontinued, I'm not ready to put down $400 on an Apple Watch for just exercise. I'll never use it to check or reply to text messages, use Apple Pay, etc. However, the Series 3 watch is around $200 and appears to offer more of what I'm looking for (also, would buy GPS model, not GPS + Cellular). So the price between a Fitbit Charger 4 and Apple Watch Series 3 is about $50. Also, the Fitbit has sleep tracking, which is a feature I'm curious about. Anybody have any feedback on either/both?

Hello everyone, I have a legal question for a friend that I cannot find an straight answer online. A couple have entered the US through lottery green card and now are permanent residents. After two years, husband wants to divorce her. They both are not US citizens yet. Will wife would be eligible for alimony if they separated? I want to add, they have been together for more than ten years prior to immigration.

Most if not all states have alimony related statutes that can significantly differ. Federal statutes may affect their immigration status and recognition of marriage. This needs a lawyer's attention.

Thanks Olivant, I'm pretty sure her green card stays as it is. It's that she will be left on her own, and I'm not sure how she will fair. They live in Maryland, and I checked, it's probably very hard for him to divorce her without grounds for divorce. I don't know. I'm just worried about her.

It's American where we have a 51% divorce rate in this country. If he says he's divorcing her for "irreconcilable differences," he's golden. Mind you, I'm not a lawyer, but that's what a lot of divorces are granted on the grounds of here (regardless of which state they live in). I hope your friends are ok!

Thanks Irishman, I did read about this no fault divorce, but I think for this to take effect quickly both parties should want this. Otherwise, court does not grant this unless they have lived apart for a year for instance. If I were her I would leave him, but she is preparing for med school test and says getting a job right now sets her back. Oh, well. I guess one gotta do what they gotta do.

Have any of you Board members had any experience using blue light screens on your PC and blue light glasses? If so, do you consider them effective?
Oliviant, all new devices now have decent reading modes. Windows 10 has a "night light" option. Search and adjust to your liking. On android there is a reading mode as well. I did buy a pair of glasses that would eliminate blue light, but end up not using it because it didn't match my eyesight after all.

Ordered myself an Apple Watch the other day (Series 5). I've been waiting over a month for the price of the 5 to drop, since the Series 6 and SE were announced and released. I got the 44mm and it retails for $420 before taxes. Finally got it off Amazon for $350. Just got it in today and now figuring out how to use it.

Wow, election day and it's so quiet here. I guess we could've had an state pool like that dead pool and whoever got the most right would win. Or maybe that's still too political?

Political talk was banned 2 years ago because some couldn't keep their emotions in check/stop calling others names for disagreeing with them. I voted a few weeks ago when early voting opened in my state (first time I've voted early). Plus, some states have extensions to count all of the mail-in ballots that came in so I'm not expecting a clear, cut winner tonight anyway. I don't expect the results to be final until next week honestly.

I'm no fan of Cuomo, but it seems to me he was only guilty of unwanted flirting. He probably thought they liked him. Didn't Biden and Trump do the same thing? Get Cuomo for the nursing home scandal. He should be in prison for that

Dems and the media protect him for killing the elderly in New York (apparently he even gets an Emmy for it) but can't brush sexual harassment under the rug. Now what I love hearing is the whole, "it wasn't my intent" bullcrap. Sorry Andy, the left has made it perfectly clear that intentions don't matter: only feelings.

The Dems have morphed into an unrecognizable party without values and parameters. At this point, all they do is virtue signal. I wish Tulsi had some traction, but the thing about fools is that there's too many of them.

No one will ever trust Americans in the Middle East. Think of all those who translated for the military, it's open season on them and women that were installed to power by some meaningless affirmative action. Now he wants to move on to Israeli-Palestinian conflict. God help them.

The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano in Tonga on January 15th produced a large and destructive tsunami through a new volcanic eruption. This tsunami occurred due to partial edifice collapse, which destroyed the vast majority of the existing island. Instead of a once 4 kilometer or 2.4 mile wide island, there are now only two small barrier islands. What had just occurred was likely the most powerful volcanic eruption in a decade. This video will separate fact from fiction, and discuss the eruption, what its true magnitude is, and what might happen next at Hunga Tonga. It is a very famous volcano as it has produced several spectacular island forming eruptions in the 21st century.

The handle feels substantial and the head swivels. It's a little under $25 for the handle and the first 14 cartridges.

All I'll say is, this wouldn't have happened under Trump. Our enemies are laughing and daring us to do something because they know how weak Biden is.

Yep Putin saw his chance with a divided EU, UK, a weaker USA and a clueless NATO.

Nothing is going to happen. Ukraine is not important enough. Even 45 agrees
Mic drop!
Exactly. Why is Biden trying to fuck with Putin? He is honestly making me nervous lol. The right thing to do right now would be to just stay cool with Russia. Going to war would be crazy. I think the best way to beat Putin would be to help the people in Russia, the people who are tired of that little fuck. These countries need to develop on their own. We can't save every country. We need to save America first.

Few expected such a full scale attack most thought they would only take the Donbas region, this is very ambitious.
I don't get how many people were surprised by this. Just two days ago Putin said that the very existence of Ukraine was a mistake. He has wanted to set up a puppet government over there for years. Garry Kasparov called this a long time ago. Read Winter Is Coming. I think the only people who are surprised are the people who haven't been paying attention.

Surprised? Wake up people! We have people fighting to be identified as the opposite gender, while over in Ukraine families are having to identify dead relatives. Putin heard the rumors that Joe keeps getting yelled by the secret service for eating dog shit at the white house. Maybe Joe should call up ol TRUMP and ask him to talk with Putin. After all, wasn't there this big collusion thing between the two. All kidding aside, there's no point in sending our troops over there at this point. Hopefully it doesn't get to the point of where all of Europe is at war. Toughen up butter cup.

Everybody is tired of them, including many good people on the left. Not just Tulsi. There's Bill Maher, even that annoying Jon Stewart, people with massive audiences
