I believe that was due to Joe Colombo.He had a few meetings with Al ruddy the producer and a few things in the script were changed.Colombo was on his high horse at the time with all the Italian american civil rights movement stuff.

They did use it in GF2 though.

I always thought it was an empty 'accomplishment' to have the word mafia removed. They couldn't say mafia because it 'disrepects' italian americans but they can show an italian man beating and abusing a pregnant italian lady with no problem.
