Great to see that the BBC took the Italian (Gomorrah) approach in making a fictional TV series based on a true crime book.

Didn't really expect that from the BBC tbh, thought they were too conservative for it..

McMafia begins on BBC1 on New Year’s Day at 9.00pm UK Time, continues on Tuesday 2nd January at the same time.

Among the show’s main considerations, says Amini, was the importance of getting the scenes set in the expat Russian community correct. He admits that he drew in part on his own experiences arriving as a child from Iran in the 1970s. “I did give some of my story to Alex,” he admits. “That feeling of being proud of where you are from but also sometimes ashamed or embarrassed of it plus the notion of exile and what it means to be from somewhere where you might never return. We were also very mindful of trying not to do the Russian cliché, which is why it was very important to us to have Russian actors in those roles and not well-known English stars doing an accent.”

Hi, Billy, I haven't watched it yet. My wife drives me nuts about it and my mum needed counselling when series 4 finished. I'm gonna hit it hard on box set binge. Everybody I know who watches it loves it.

I've watched every episode since its beginning and like it very much..

There are obvious parallels to the Godfather story though, Alex Godman is basically a Russian version of Michael Corleone in the 21st century. His unwillingness to participate in the 'family' business in the beginning, followed by his change of heart after a family member gets hit. He even has his own Kay Adams who tries to steer him back to the 'good side' and away from the family business. This story arc does sounds a little familiar doesn't it??

According to the BBC, a decision will be made as to whether it will return for another series once the drama has aired in America.

AMC only played one episode so far but make sure you tape 1 1/2 hour since the first episode was exsended over an hour.

Just finished the finale. I enjoyed every episode. I was confused when I saw someone post that they had seem all the episodes and AMC was only on the series premiere. I found them all on my firestick. It is a bbc series. I hope there is a second season.

Yea we've only had 4 episodes here in the states. For those of you across the pond, have you heard if this series has been picked up and extended or no? I haven't heard the ratings over here but I would have to imagine it's pulling decent numbers. I'm definitely hooked!

I did think that dude Kleiman was going that way since he had no interest in the Women that were being bought other than for Business reasons but thought that was just a business decision and not a preference. He had a very solid personality.

For decades now, Russians have been the favorite villains for Western media and entertainment. To become all sensitive right now is silly. I fear other series will be censored in a similar manner: particularly the second season of Gangs of London, which was rumored to feature Russians.
