Mafia link suspected in laborer's murder

(ANSA) - Palermo, January 11 - The investigation into the murder of Vincenzo Greco, 36, is following a mafia-related line of inquiry, sources said Friday. The construction worker was riddled with bullets on Thursday when driving an off-road vehicle on a road connecting Belmonte Mezzagno to Santa Cristina Gela near Palermo.
The victim does not have a criminal record and is the son-in-law of Filippo Casella, a man killed in 1994 when he was 32 years old in Belmonte Mezzagno.

According to anti-mafia investigators, a "pact" would have been concluded between Tunisian smugglers of cigarettes and the Mafia of Trapani and Palermo.

How far back will the mafia be set if and when Dinero is captured? And when it comes to drugs, is Italy buying from Mexico?

Yes, in the last ten years most major drug traffickers in Europe have links to the Mexicans.

Are the Colombians still in the picture like they used to be? It looks like the two main groups are the Ndrangheta(the most powerful) and the Sinaloa cartel(right behind them).

Is it true that the Ndrangheta really paid Thailand’s debt off and they’re using that as leverage against the government there?

https://www.salon.com/2018/06/24/le...ganized-crime-is-global-and-flourishing/

Giuseppe Lombardo, a Calabrian prosecutor specializing in the ’Ndrangheta’s finances, told me that by buying up the government debt of two Asian countries, Thailand and Indonesia, then threatening to dump it, the ’Ndrangheta had blackmailed entire nations into letting it operate on their territory. Their money, said Lombardo, had elevated the group to a position of invulnerability. They now occupied a "fundamental and indispensable position in the global market," he said, one that was "more or less essential for the smooth functioning of the global economic system."

Who know ? It wouldn't surprise me if her father had money hidden off shore accounts.

That still amazes me. Just another example of their power.

Matteo Messina Denaro, long thought to be Cosa Nostra's fugitive No.1, does not in fact have "an active role" in the criminal organisation, Palermo police chief Renato Cortese said Friday. "He does not have criminal strategies and the affiliates do not report to him," Cortese said.

Mafia, Italy-Germany blitz against Rinzivillo clan: 11 arrests

Rome, (askanews) - Important anti-Mafia blitz between Italy and Germany led by the Caltanissetta Police and the Rome Guardia di Finanza: 11 members of the Rinzivillo clan were thus arrested for crimes of criminal association aimed at trafficking and trafficking of narcotics. The operation of the agents of the Mobile Squad and of the Gico financiers was conducted in Lazio, Sicily, Campania and Umbria, and in Germany, Cologne and Mannheim, where, with the collaboration of the Criminal Police and the German Special Departments , handcuffs were taken for 4 affiliates, belonging to the German "cell", operating in the Land of North Rhine Westphalia.
The blitz is the conclusion of an investigation that at the end of 2017 had already led to the arrest of 37 people and the preventive seizure of assets for over 18 million euros.

Blitz after the story of the repentant !

Two other bosses emerge, members of the new Commission of Cosa Nostra in Palermo: Calogero Lo Piccolo and Leandro Greco. Their names are added to the puzzle that allows you to outline the contours of the new mafia.

The Palermo dda issued a decree against seven people in the context of the investigations on the reconstituted Commission. The project to restore life to the Dome had been discovered in December and had led to the arrest of 47 between bosses and followers.

The investigation has now allowed to identify two other prominent elements of the dome: Leandro Greco is the grandson of the historical capomafia of Ciaculli, Michele Greco; Calogero Lo Piccolo is the son of the San Lorenzo boss Salvatore Lo Piccolo. Both attended the meetings of the new provincial commission.

Calogero Lo Piccolo, 43, had already been in the cell where he serves a sentence for the Mafia. He would be the new head of the line and would take over the reins immediately after his release.

m2w, it looks like you were right about the younger guys these two already on the Commission !

According to turncoats 29-year-old Leandro Greco, despite unknown to police, is currently the most powerful boss; He was made boss of Ciaculli mandamento when he was only 23.
Colletti and Bisconti told police that he was the real boss of bosses although they elected Mineo. They started to cooperate because they were scared of him, considered very dangerous, they understood he wanted to take over the Cupola and to put his men as capimandamenti across the province.

Leandro Greco is also nicknamed " Michele ", in tribute of his grandfather, who headed the Cupola, but was little more than Riina's "puppet boss".

"Matteo Messina Denaro will be arrested soon this is certain. The boss I believe that today has no operational value in Cosa Nostra, is the regent of the Trapani mafia, but has no operation". This was said by the general Giuseppe Governale, number one of the Dia, during his speech at the Premio Mario and Giuseppe Francese. "For the capture of Messina Denaro working day and night a task force of policemen and carabinieri who work with great professionalism and generosity and therefore I am sure that will be brought to justice," said Governale.

The disappearance of strong figures like those of Riina and Bernardo Provenzano led Cosa Nostra to reorganize their ranks with a work of pacification between the various families. Thus the "winning" Corleonesi and the "loser" groups, decimated by the mafia wars, are now united, and together they have chosen a new path: abandonment of all traces of violence, sharing of the management of traditional trades (lace in the first place, but also drugs and bets), control of the procurement system, links with professional activities. This new criminal horizon was organized without the decisive influence of the superlatitant Matteo Messina Denaro who remains linked to a "dynastic" vision of the mafia.
The abandonment of the ferocious violence that has provoked the harsh response of the State is now the shared method in the reorganization of Cosa nostra, which on the one hand tries to maintain control of all the most profitable activities with a trial, according to Scarpinato, of "slow and underground change in the method of relating to civil society". In fact, a "progressive transition from violence to consensus" is taking place.
