Do you think there will be another Godfather film of some sort?
Let's start a discussion!

I doubt it. Coppola certainly could have gotten financial backing even in the late 1990s, and there's some evidence of at least the rudiments of a plot outline before Puzo's death. But Coppola has made it pretty clear he has no interest in making a fourth film, and frankly he's reaching the age where I doubt we will see much more output of any kind, but particularly the kind of work that is needed to construct as vast a production as a Godfather film.

If I had one wish, it would be to see a written treatment of the original Part 3 story; with the central plot being the final break between Tom and Michael. I think a fourth Godfather would just be universally depressing, more like a Goodfellas knock-off.

I understood Francis Coppola made it very clear he will not do another film. What I meant was if you think there will ever be another one made by anyone at all.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think probably after FFC dies Paramount or Sony or whoever owns the rights will do a reboot/reimagining of the franchise.

2022 will be the 50th anniversary of the film franchise; I could see some kind of reboot/spinoff project being done, possibly with the 'endorsement' of FFC if he is still alive.

I could see maybe an "alternate universe" approach being taken to any hypothetical reboot: focus on time-frames not already covered in existing GF films.

You could have one film focus on "The Happy Years," 1927-41, when the Corleone empire grows into one of the nation's most powerful, and another one on "Estrangement in the Sixties" when the relationship between Tom Hagen and Michael deteriorates, and finally "The Corleones in Twilight," 1980-1997, with the aftermath of Mary's killing.

Great idea, but I think it would be best to make this in to a TV show instead of a film.

They could make 3 amazing seasons covering the 3 time periods you just mentioned..

That plot outline was ALLEGEDLY used as the basis for Ed Falco's "The Family Corleone." But Paramount showed absolutely no interest in adapting it into a fourth film. As a matter of fact, they tried to sue the publisher for copyright infringement.

did part 3 make money?

If it was as successful as one and two there would be a fourth. With different actors a new generation of actors, but it would not be about Italians.

Now it would be about Mexicans. Actually I think that kind of movie could make money..

Thank you everyone for sharing with me what you think and for every info as well. Would really like to hear more from you all about your ideas. During these last few years I've grown quite bitter with the weak third film that it is. I guess I was just so positively affected with the final scenes of the film that I didn't see its apparent flaws. But the even bigger issue is that it simply doesn't feel like a Godfather film, then again FFC didn't really intend for it to be that. I don't understand how they could let this happen, and I blame mostly Paramount for this freakin' disaster!

The idea of an alternate universe sounds very interesting. I wish there was a way they could redo Part III with that original storyline before it is too late, and I would also love to see a prequel made. I really think a film with Pacino and Duvall, and a prequel needs to happen. I would be very happy seeing a tv series depicting the years before Part I as mentioned earlier in here. I really don't want them to make a continuation to Part III becuase I consider it an extremely good ending.

I also can't figure out why Paramount has no interest in making a fourth film.

I'm positive that there will be a continuation of the franchise at some point. There's just too much potential storywise. It could have ended with Part II, but Part III tarnished the legacy. And there are still a lot of questions to be answered and gaps to be filled.

I think that a mini-serie about the Corleones will be ideal.

I imagine that the networks and studios continually get peppered with any number of GF-based scripts. Sooner or later one of them will be accepted.
