I always liked the scene when Tony chases Phil down in that car chase. The song on Tony's radio is "rock the casbah" and you can tell he enjoys the whole chase. Phil throws his ice cream out the window casually, and crashes into a truck. Tony's "Mister, are you okay??!!" was classic.

To me, the Phil scene scene recalls the Pilot where Tony runs down Mahaffey. Tony jumps out of the car and, for the benefit of the onlookers asks "are you okay?" Then he proceeds to punch Mahaffey in the leg that is being held in pain from being run over.

Noticed that too -- to both Mahaffey and Phil, it's a subtle hint that no Good Samaritans are going to intervene.

Would Tony not have been whacked for putting his hands on another made man, even if it was justified ?

Assuming Phil was made or was he a capo at this point.

But Phil was not paying up on an ordered tribute, so I wonder if that would have been overlooked.

Jackie Jr. was such a dumbass. From that same storyline, later in the episode, I like when Jackie goes to visit Matusch in the hospital. "Didn't you mention my name?" asks Jackie to Matusch, who had the tar beaten out of him. "Yeah, but I don't think they like you."

Nobody liked Jackie, Jr. Remember when Richie was trying to marshal Junior's support, and Jackie's talking tough? Junior gives him the greatest "Go Fuck Yourself" insult.
