Tick's lucky that Anthony Casso is doing life or else he would be a dead man, because there is nothing Gaspipe hates more than a rapist...... oh wait.

If he was really guilty of rape back then, then I think he should never have been free since that conviction.
On the other hand, somewhere I read he wasn't yet the family consigliere when Galante was killed, so why was he convicted on that count also? What was his role exactly in the Galante hit?

They must have reduced it because it used to be 2040-something. If he makes it out, he will be the only "leadership" guy from the Commission trial to step on free ground since the sentencing. Maybe it has to do with health reasons.

He just happened to be on the Commission when they were all charged. Him not being in a leadership position at the time of the Galante murder was noted but made no difference in the end as he still got nailed with the other racketeering charges. A sort of guilt by association.

The BOP is a little more lenient towards prisoners with health problems that have already served a significant portion of their sentence. If he would have been arrested even five years ago he would never have been let out.

I doubt it. The guys' relatives still have an iron grip over that family. No way is he getting out. If he was 100 and released from prison he would still rule that family and the BOP knows that.

If he is getting out of federal prison early, he must be a very sick man, so it's extremely unlikely he will be anything but confined to his home or a hospital/nursing facility.

Furnari health is declining fast it seems, it will be just like Rastelli when he gets out. I don't think he will last that long once he is released. As for Persico, they won't let him out, BOP knows what he will be up to if released from prison.

From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

so if he gets out in 2 months hes already in a halfway house other then Bruno ide. he the only guy left from the real commission. some one posted the rape article on him check the search. it was weird it was him an like 5 other guys charged with raping a girl in the 40tys he was 18 I think. but I like to read and in the 60tys profaci used him as a hitman taking out the gallo gang according to greg scarpa snitching. the great writer capeci wrote yrs ago that he would die in jail not for nothing but I see some old 90ty year old brain works body no. would be surprised if some of the demeo gang get out 1day. they let the old boston boss jerry out early from his 45yr sentence and he lived inhis big mansion on the ocean for 2yrs guess the feds don't like paying for kidney dialsis. fucking botched that last word. dialasis dyadlisi.

A lot of "lifers" are being released from prison due to severe over crowding. Vice did a pretty good report on this about a month ago. I'd be willing to bet that this is the case with Luchesse. He's in his 90's, chances of recidivism are probably nonexistent, he's got another few years of life left at best.

It's kind of a bittersweet situation, really, to finally get a taste of freedom at the very end of your life, at a time when you'll least enjoy it. hehe.

Careful, buddy. You don't want to ruin anyone's fantasy about him being a Robin Hood type who was only out to protect the neighborhood from outsiders wink.

Yeah surprisingly there is actually a decent amount of made guys who have been convicted for rape, Paul Vario is an example. Although saying that, I did see a webpage a while back that listed the criminal records of almost all the members of Colombo family and only noticed one guy who had been convicted of rape so maybe those guys are just the very small minority.

I do agree though, Funari looks like a bit of a creep.

Geriatric Colombo underboss John ‘Sonny’ Franzese sentenced to eight years in federal prison

The aged and infirm underboss of the Colombo crime family was sentenced today to eight years in prison for shaking down the Hustler and Penthouse strip clubs in Manhattan.
John “Sonny” Franzese 93, devoted “a lifetime to organized crime” and is now unlikely to survive the prison term, given his deteriorating medical condition which includes chronic kidney disease and heart problems, Judge Brian Cogan said in Brooklyn federal court.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Posa had urged the judge to give Franzese even more time behind bars for his racketeering and extortion convictions, arguing that the mobster “has literally gotten away with murder for decades.”
“He has never held an honest job one day of his life,” Posa told the judge. “He’s essentially lived as a parasite off the hard work of others by shaking them down.”
The judge’s sentence could represent the final chapter in Franzese’s storied and controversial life as a violent New York mobster who government officials suspect may be responsible for some 50-100 murders.
His criminal career began in the later years of the Great Depression and continued on for generations into the 21st Century, when he discussed having his own adult son murdered after learning that he had become an FBI informant and was wearing a “wire.”
Franzese troubled path dated back to an arrest for violent assault at age 19 in 1938, prosecutors say, and included his 1942 discharge from the Army at the height of World War II because he displayed “homicidal tendencies.”
In 1945, Franzese’s first wife divorced him, alleging that he “habitually threatened to disfigure her with a knife,” prosecutors say. Then in 1947, he raped a waitress in a garage. In 1966, Franzese was arrested for murdering a bookmaking rival and dumping his body in Jamaica Bay with cement blocks chained to his feet.
In recent weeks, Franzese’s family members have written numerous letters to the judge to emphasize a different side to a man they insist has fundamentally changed in later life.
His 21-year-old granddaughter, Kristen Franzese, described Franzese as “kind, considerate, warm, and funny.”
“When he is around family he just loves to tell jokes, watch baseball on television, nap, and tell stories about the past,” she wrote.
Another granddaughter, Maria Vanessa Scorsone had written to tell the judge about how Franzese warmed to his year-old great granddaughter.
Until two years ago, Scorsone wrote, Grandpa “was not really a part of our lives” and “he never had anything to do with children. Mostly he was in jail.”
Then he came to stay for a visit and met the baby, Scorsone wrote, “He seemingly melted in front of her,” Scorsone wrote. “I had never seen him happy before, but he was happy when he was with [our daughter]. This was not the man I had known.”
Before pronouncing sentence, the judge said that he believed the relatives’ stories and that Franzese – in poor health and reaching the final stages of his life – had become “a changed person.”
Franzese’s defense attorney, Richard Lind, had asked the judge for a sharp reduction in the sentence, saying that the mobster “was not a risk to the public at this point.”
Lind said that despite coming across as gruff and menacing in the FBI’s secretly recorded tapes, Franzese was actually “extremely insecure and vulnerable to people who want to prey on him.”
When Franzese was asked by the judge if he wanted to address the court, he mumbled to his attorney and appeared to ask whether he should point out the his perceived unfair treatment at the hands of the government.
But his defense attorney abruptly cut him off.
“He has nothing to say, judge.”

I guess when Sonny comes out of prison maybe he should focus on persuing a Movie career ala Mike Tyson. Only in America can a convicted rapist be loved by Hollywood!

I think being cold blooded and vicious to even innocents are good attributes for a gangster to have and whats more cold blooded and vicious than rape.

His 21-year-old granddaughter, Kristen Franzese, described Franzese as “kind, considerate, warm, and funny.”

SO FUCKING WHAT!

Gengis Khan, Pol Pot, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler all had redeeming qualities too. Nobody, no matter how evil they are, shuffles around muttering "brains.... must eat brains" like a half-cocked Frankenstein.

Franzese is a mutt and he should have been given a life sentence a long time ago.

The sob stories you hear about these bastards angers me so much.

You have poor Kelsey Grammar having to deal with some mongrel appealing his punishment every 5 years and saying he's a changed, remorseful man; after raping his sister and butchering her over a period of several hours.

If you have "remorse" or if you are a changed man, you accept and come to terms with your punishment, make peace with your God, and you DO NOT add to someone's misery and pain by making them constantly relive the most traumatic period of their life by appealing every 5 years.

Rant over.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

Well said. Someone who truly felt remorse, and had become a "changed" man, would recognize the scope of their crime and feel they deserved to remain in prison and accept their full punishment.

He must literally be at death's door. His original release date was 2050 or something like that. And the Feds just don't guys like him out early. I'm betting he has a full diaper right about now.

The odds of him leaving prison with a beating heart are right up there with Charles Manson's lol.

I'm sure he's on death's door just like Jerry Lang was when he was released.

Then they wouldn't have let him out. Not in a million years. The medical review that a lifer has to go through to get a compassionate release isn't just a routine physical. He'd have to fool a slew of government employed health professionals, a psychiatrist or two among them. Furnari can't be long for this world.

Federal prisoners are only available for parole in four situations:

(1) Those convicted of crimes before November, 1987, when the new federal parole restrictions were instituted.

(2) Those convicted of committing crimes before 1997 in the District of Columbia.

(3) Those serving time in military prisons.

(4) Those convicted of crimes who are members of a country involved with the U.S. in foreign treaty transfer cases.

I'd like to take a $50 parlay that he makes it to 2015 but violates his conditions of parole.

think I came up with the answer why he was realeased other then hes about to die. sometime in the late 80tys early 90tys they over turned the act of violence for chris tic who was not the consign in 1979 when galante was murder at the vote of the commission and I think doing his 100 yrs bid with no violent act other then the concrete club he wraps up in 1/4 or alittle over 27yrs. think that why Bruno got parole cause he wasn't on the commission.

But his projected release date was 2044 right up until a month or so ago. In my opinion, if this was connected to something that was overturned way back in the '80s or '90s, they would have changed his projected release date much sooner. Time will tell, I guess. But I'm still betting that it's a compassionate release.

Attorney general holder and Obama pardon him for his role in takedown day. But Obama did mention mafia takedown day in his press conference for holder. Let me go check tommy g voice on his thoughts on holder.
