Tommy interesting. Just out of curiosity where did you hear this? I know I have read about the 07 ceremony but not about 2011. Did uncle joe do this ceremony or was it after he got indicted?

I have no idea what those guys are making and kicking to Joey if anything, and will leave that to the Philly mob experts. I will say Boca is a city of extreme wealth and driving around in in an Escalade and living in a $400,000 Townhouse would be considered middle class in Boca. The nicer townhomes down here start in the 2 million dollar range and Bentleys, Rolls and Maserati's are almost as common as Hondas. If Joey is still the boss and getting an envelope he is doing the right thing by keeping a low profile and not living extravagantly at least by Boca standards.

True. But now he's driving a brand new rolls royce.. I'm not sure what model but I'm pretty sure its the ghost. Its dark blue and silver.. So he's not keeping too low of a profile.. Also I wonder if he's going to upgrade from his townhouse to something bigger since his wife and younger daughter are moving down to boca with him in a month.

I don't know what Joey's worth and I don't care. But NNY78 makes a valid point about the property values in Boca. As far as the car, lots of guys drive cars that are over their heads. The South Bronx has a minority population well over 90 percent, and it contains the single poorest zip code in the United States. Yet you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Escalade. Now Merlino may be sitting on 40 million for all I know. God bless him if he is. I'm just making what I think is an appropriate analogy. He wouldn't be the first wiseguy living over his head.

Very valid point pb.. I wasn't trying to claim that merlino is loaded, shit I know lots of people who live in shacks yet have an e63 amg benz and a bmw m6 at the same time.. Anyone willing to scrape together 1000 dollars a month towards a lease can drive a 120k car.. And it appears they're very well off but in reality they would never be able to outright buy the cars..
Plus I think its fair to say merlino thinks image is important so it wouldn't surprise me if he could barely afford what he's got, on the other hand maybe he's got tons stashed.. Who knows

It is very difficult to know peoples finances. Shit I've known people for years who appear to be doing really well but in reality they're drowning to stay afloat.. Then on the other hand you got the guys who you think don't have 2 nickles to rub together and drive a shitty car and they have tons of bread put away..

Flamboyance got him pinched the first time and now hes throwing it in the feds' faces again? They already visited to talk about increasing restitution. He's gotta instagram posting photos of him living it up. When is he going to learn?

I know nothing about him except for what I've read. But I have heard from a few Philly posters that he had a habit of sticking bookmakers, and I think that tells you a lot about his character. Now don't get me wrong, virtually all criminals are lacking character. Right?

But I think there are degrees of character. You take a John Gotti or a Vinny Basciano, and those guys were both serious, even problem gamblers. But from what I know about Vinny, and from what I've heard about Gotti, they'd stick up a frigging bodega to pay their gambling debts if they had to.

Anyone who throws his weight around and says, "Fuck you, try to collect," is not worthy of his stripes if you ask me.

But again, this is all third hand from guys I've met here. I try not to speculate about people outside of my own area smile .

The last gangster by George Anastasia is the only book which covers the period Joey and Natale ran the show. Merlino and Borgesi were known for betting into books under false names and not paying up. That's why i said if borgesi is boss then it isnt LCN, its just a thug throwing his weight around. Those two are not mobsters, they are thugs who happened to have vowels at the end of their names.

CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go.
MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'.

I would say there is a bit of difference between real mobsters like Gambino or the Chin that successfully ran multi-million dollar ventures and thugs morons that rip off bookies. Guys like Georgie are closer to the thug end of things. Degenerate gamblers that can't even cover their own debts.

Should probably ask Mr. Kierney. I guess if you're Italian, you should be in prison.
I've read the RICO Act, and I can tell you it's more appropriate...
for some of those guys over in Washington than it is for me or any of my fellas here

Can't or won't, Nicky?

The can't makes you a degenerate. The won't makes you a scumbag wink.

Their have been a lot of Philly media reports about Joey and the Philly Mob power structure, at least in part to sell papers and drive traffic to their websites. What I find interesting is that there has not been a single report on Joey by the South Florida media since October of 2012, not even by the gossip papers and Joey literally lives directly across the street from the National Enquirer's Headquarters. The last report on Joey I believe was by Julie Brown when Joey called her dispute what she wrote about him when he was released, see the article below. Now the media down her loves a story on the Mafia especially Channel 7 in Miami, which is more like TMZ than a TV station, and all you hear are the crickets chirping. smile

Hey Stevie, do you have any pictures of Beeps, Marty Curro, or Eric Esposito? Robert Ranieri as well? I'm trying to finish my new chart for Philly, and there are a few guys that I just can't find ANY pictures of.

Guess that's a good thing for those guys though!

the info about the 2011 ceremony came out during the trial, so it probably occurred before the indictments.

I believe the one that came out in the trial was from 07 where fazzini, canalichio, esposito and four others got inducted. I have never heard of the 2011 one though.

Hey Delly,

Ranieri seems to have a light complexion. Is he only 62.38 percent Italian, or is he a SUPER ITALIAN in disguise??

You know these things keep me up at night.

o ya i put a lot of time and money into researching this type of stuff and judging by his skin tone, hair color, and weight suggests that he's northern moderate italian, but his guido style shirt(with the no undershirt combo) seems to suggest that he's starting to make the jump to super italian.

we used to have a real expert on here whose really the one to talk to about this(he let us all in on the big secret that robert deniro wasn't really 100% italian but yet still looked it!!) i haven't seen him post in a while though ohwell

If he's driving around in a Bentley and ends up buying a $2 million house, it wouldn't be too hard for the IRS to put him in prison for another 10 years unless he's reporting enough income on his taxes to show he can afford those luxuries.

It's a dangerous game, but half the street guys play it. If not more than half. Image is everything to some of these guys.

But in all fairness, it's not mutually exclusive to wiseguys. I've known assholes like that in the "straight" world all my life. Morons rolleyes.

K1NG6,

You can get pictures of just about every Philly wise guy here.

I think the IRS is too busy shredding documents, deleting emails and doing other tasks to earn their bonuses and undermine the Republicans to pay attention to what Joey's is up to. Anyway if Joey is living the high life he is doing a great job of keeping it a secret because nobody down her is reporting on it? The local crime/gossip reporters have a history of reporting everything on these wise guys even if their source is a homeless guy begging for change on Commercial Blvd. smile

Ranieri is no longer in that life. He and Staino had a falling out long before those indictments came out.

I get it you're better than me because you're slightly less obsessed with organized crime. You only come on this site because you have a moderate but healthy interest in the subject.

we used to have a real expert on here whose really the one to talk to about this(he let us all in on the big secret that robert deniro wasn't really 100% italian but yet still looked it!!) i haven't seen him post in a while though ohwell

I get it you're better than me because you're slightly less obsessed with organized crime. You only come on this site because you have a moderate but healthy interest in the subject.

I know for a fact that Delly's not talking about you, ItalianForever. We were BOTH referencing a poster who's obsessed with skin tone and ethnology. No sense bringing up his username, but I promise you it's not you smile.

After reading all the posts about the speculation of Joey's wealth, wasn't it pretty much documented that when he first got out he was basically getting perks[if that's the right word] from somebody that had a lot of money and was basically investing in Joey.In what form I don't know but wasn't he the one who got the car and townhouse for Joey?
