Strange question for a mafia dedicated forum but are there any modern day, rural crime organizations that specialize in cattle rustling like the outlaws in the old west?

^ A farmer from Queensland had 800 or so cattle stolen from his property back in 2012, I remember hearing about it on the news haha. Must have been a well-organised operation. I was just wondering if there are gangs in America, dedicated to stealing large amounts of cattle for profit, not so much meth addicts stealing 5 or 6 cows to feed their habit.

The had a drug smuggling ring busted a while back in Texas and Louisiana. They would put the dope into the cattle then put them in trailers and ship them to a location to make it look like they were just moving cattle. I'll try to find the article.

Coming from cow country (and as a former ranch-hand) I can say there is no OC involvement in rustling.

There is rustling, but it's you're usual meth-addicts or drunks with IQs in the double-digets who do it. It's actually remarkably easy here since there are millions and millions of acres of open range grazing in some of most remote spots in North America.

All you have to do is drive up a cattle trailer, round-up the cattle and hope nobody comes down the road. Since some remote herds don't get moved or checked on for a couple of days there's a good window to get away. Finding a buyer willing to overlook a questionable brand is another story.

Uusally people are caught pretty fast since we're talking about very rural areas and it's not hard to round-up the usual suspects and match tire-tracks left in the desert with thier vehicles. Like in the old western movies, touching another person's livestock is still looked upon as a pretty low violation of common decency and usually nieghbors will go to great lenghs to find out what who did it since thier livelihoods are threatened also.

That kind of shit has been going on here in Nevada for 30 years, google "Sagebursh Rebellion" and you'll get the history over it. One guy even tried to bomb a Fed courthouse here in Reno over it about 20 years ago.

Not sure about the particulars of this case, sometimes the taking of horses and cattle on Fed lands are really egragious and unjustified; otheritmes the ranchers are in the wrong and it just doesn't take much to get people whipped-up about it because they're already angry at Fed land managers. There's a lot of gray area and sometmes the Feds haven't enforced the rules or boundries and then suddenly people find out that the parcel they've been grazing on for 70 years has been off-limits for that whole time.

It still happens near Reno, NV area but it is just a few head of cattle they take, and as Tony Pro has said it is just mainly tweekers, drunks, high schoolers, or college fraternity pleadges that does that.

Australian,

Everyday Average Couple Accused Of Running Massive Drug Ring

A young mother from Australia has been accused of using her paid maternity leave to help her husband run a multi-million dollar drug empire. Sarah Hannan, 27, allegedly controlled the finances of the marijuana business that she ran with her husband Ben, which was so successful that they bought a $1.1 million mansion on the Gold Coast to house their underground cannabis plantations.

Police claimed that while Ben handled the growing of hydroponic crops in hidden bunkers, Sarah funneled $1 million into 17 accounts over two years, using advice from a local accounting firm that assumed they were running a legitimate business. In addition to the waterfront mansion, they used the money from their drug dealing to buy investment properties worth $2.2 million and several luxury cars.

Transcripts from wiretapped phone conversations indicated that Sarah spoke with Ben’s brother, Scott, about needing to wait for drug cash to arrive so that she could pay a $5,000 bill. The phone taps also revealed the Hannan brothers arguing over the use of pesticides on marijuana crops and Scott’s plans to get a roommate. “It doesn’t bother me as long as the guy never, ever, ever gets a whiff of what you do for work,” said Ben. “It’s way too close.”

Unfortunately for Sarah, she became the first woman to be charged under Australia’s new Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act, which would give her an extra 15 years in prison if convicted on charges of drug trafficking and supply. Ben faces an additional 25 years in jail under the new act as the alleged leader of a criminal organization. All of their assets and properties have also been frozen as alleged criminal proceeds.

Extortion,

That's a good idea, right after the cows are done pollinating this drug dealers hi-tech weed in Australia we'll use Bessie to muscle in on the fertilizer business, Clarabelle to threaten a union work stoppage, and Buttercup to create 3 no show jobs. wink
