Does anyone know much about this guy?
He was a close associate of the Snake.
Why was he called "Apples"?

Have wondered about this myself. The Gravano book mentions that he was as good as a made guy, very respected.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/09/answers-about-the-new-york-mafia-part-2/

Two Mafia figures of renown died due to improper medical care in prison. One being, of course, Anthony Gaggi. The other being Hugh McIntosh.

I didn't know about this. The family should have sued, according to Capeci.

McIntosh was feared and respected when he was alive. He was close Persico and was a hugh earner for the Colombo's. The family should have sued, but I think they did not want to bring any more attention to their personal family, can't blame them.

I spent some time with Andrew Russo who loved Hugh very much. Hugh & James Cahn where and are Andrews best friends. He told me many stories of then growing up in south Brooklyn. Eventually I met up with Hugh in MDC Bklyn in the SHU in 97. It was an honor to meet such a well respected Irish fella from the neighborhood. However I think a when I did bunk with him in the hole he was already starting to lose his scruples. Again this man was very well respected and had more clout then many captains on the street. And yes apples came from his Rosie red cheeks which his nephew Damon also had.

You can read about it, watch movies and TV documentaries, but chances are unless you lived it you will not truly understand.

I'm sure it's 1 in the same. Like. I said I grew up from from his nephew Damon and the kid had the rosiest cheeks I ever seen and his grand pappy had the same. But I seen others say it's because of McIntosh apples too. Andrew Russo don't lie

CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go.
MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'.
WILL: So don't go.

I read he was of Scottish descent which kind of disputes the whole Irish thing.
