They are all done. There is a handful of old timers left that are living in the past and no shortage of young idiot tough guys that have no idea how to earn. Out of them all, there isn't a bonified leader among them. Granted, earning is exponentially more difficult than years ago but couple that with the lack of business savvy in the up and commers and you have a recipe for extinction.

We'll see Frankie. I agree that New England is in shambles, but the mob has proven to be resilient over the years. This is no different.

I think the biggest issue for the New England family is that, unlike the New York families, they split their power between both Boston and Providence. While the New York families have operations in other states or areas, with them being based in one city, its harder to catch them. With the power base being split, it leaves them susceptible to getting busted twice as much. Like Joe said though, they'll rebound. With the Bulger trial going on they might even try to keep a lower profile since that sort of case might cause havoc.

I do not think they will ever rebound. The oldtimers are retired and do not want to get involved. There is a recession even with oc so unless you want to sell drugs and do forever it will never be the same just my opinion.

You have to look at where it is too. Generally speaking, most people who live in the North End of Boston didn't really mind the mob being there, because a lot of the street gangs would stay away from that area so it was generally safer. It'll never be like it was in years past, but that's not to say they won't rebound.

Most of the north end is inhabited by upscale business types. The reason there are no street gangs in there is because its too expensive for most so they have no roots-you out the mob in Lawrence or Lynn and see how many Dominicans see frightened by an old Italian guy. Even if they should be-they aren't smart enough to be. A bullet drops everyone the same.

There are too street gangs near the North End, after all, its not that far from southie and mattapan and dorchester, they just stay in their area or come down this way towards brockton and the mob keeps all the drug dealers out of the north end.
