Oli, it wasn't The Exorcist but if I recall, at the time, there was a lot of discussion as to whether or not give it an X rating.

Btw, I'm sure that trivia question was inspired by the fact that it's Dustin Hoffman's birthday today. Can you believe he's 77?? uhwhat

It does, but not so much anymore. Duvall, Hackman and Eastwood are just shy of 85. Cosby just turned 77 as well.

Story on "I'm walking here...I'm walking here."

When I was in college about 15 years ago, my esteemed alma mater decided upon admission that I needed a fine arts course by the end of my third semester, or I would be dismissed. I picked a class called Focus on Film. About a month in, I arrived early to class, and there was an older gent sitting near where I usually sat. I struck up a conversation, and it turns out that man was Terence Donnelly, who was Friedkin's assistant director for Midnight Cowboy, The Exorcist, French Connection and had produced the remake of 12 Angry Men (starring one small time actor named James Gandolfini).

The day the "I'm walking here" scene was filmed, Donnelly was in charge of making sure both ends of the street were closed -- however they didn't have a permit and the legal right to do so. A cabbie was impatient, and drove past the roadblock during the shoot. Hoffman's line was a reaction to the taxi nearly hitting him.

From what I understand, there's some differing opinions on whether that scene was staged or real. Donnelly mentioned that they didn't have permits for the car chase scene in the French Connection either, but with the help of several off-duty NYPD officers, he was able to pull off traffic control for shooting so bystanders were hurt.

I wasn't aware that he was that old. I had to see the movie, "The Graduate" as an assignment in high school. (It was when the movie first came out). I was 17 years old at the time and didn't realize Hoffman was that much older than me.

Great story smile. Just nitpicking here, Friedkin didn't direct Midnight Cowboy , it was John Schlesinger who also directed Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Great story Its_da_Jackeeettttttt. That's one of the most memorable scenes from that film. I can see why that memory stays with you. Btw, it's been years since I've seen it. I don't think it's ever on tv.

Btw, Dustin Hoffman would have been 30 yrs old when he played college graduate, Benjamin. Also, did you know that Anne Bancroft was only 6 years older than him? Who would have guessed?

Completely spaced that. Friedkin really didn't hit it big until The French Connection.

Contract negotiations among the cast of "The Big Bang Theory" have reportedly been resolved, with stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco set to earn $1 million per episode for the next three seasons, Deadline reports. That matches the previously-unprecedented salaries set by the "Friends" cast in the show's last season.

Previously, Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco were paid $350,000 per episode. In addition, there's a strong possibility that the series — currently the No. 1 show on television — will be renewed for an 11th season.

DN, I have to most emphatically disagree. In the tradition of outstanding TV ensemble cast sitcoms such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cheers, and Frasier, The Big Bang Theory is so well written and performed that it is well on its way to eventual syndication heaven.

While the soundtrack is annoying, that is the case with just about any sitcom.

Considering CBS also has the No. 1 rated drama in NCIS, I wonder how long it will be before there's some "contract discussions" to be had.

According to this, Mark Harmon is making about a half million an episode, but I know he also has Executive Producer cash coming in as well:

But they laugh even when things are not funny, i can't remember Friends or Fraiser being that bad, my GF is currently watching BBF and it annoys the hell out of me..

We are talking about horror movies on another thread. Instead of starting a thread I thought I'd randomly ask here, has anybody seen any of the Final Destination movies? I see them as fun and entertaining. For some reason, I'll usually watch when one's on. The first one is probably the best.

Hadn't been on Hulu for ages, and was doing some browsing yesterday. Turns out both seasons of Crime Story and most of Wiseguy are online (and you don't need a subscription to watch online).

I have the complete box sets of both shows. I wonder if I ever actually opened them up?

I think Crime story went more then two seasons.

They had Chicago the first season. They had Vegas in the second season. They had Mexico the third season and maybe another Latin American country after that.

That's where they had the big fight in the plane and Paulie pulled the steering wheel or something like that off the plane and it was going down fast.

Love the atom bomb blast so stupid it was good.

Then Holmemann testifying against luca and they find him doing a lounge act in Vegas.

The first season was the best. I like when luca took over the local pawn shop and became the stores partner. We did that with candy stores and Spanish hole in the wall restraunts bodegas.

Then when they hung Gary Sinese who's wife was in the iron lung. Then when the cop threatens to kill luca and no reaction from him because he was already dead in side. Particularly like that scene. Meet the actor who played Luca Anthony dennison through my friend Johnny. They were both in looking for an echo good movie by the way. Starred Armand Assante I already knew him.

Dennison lived in Italian Harlem for a while when he was a kid.

You should do a thread of actors with American sounding name who are actually Italian.

Pretty sure dennisen is scilian. Pretty sure Susan Sarandon is also scilian. Uses make up to lighten up her features when she was young in order to get more acting parts.

Then we have my friend John Williams another Italian.

Then we have my soccer club Brooklyn Italians they even changed the club name to the Brooklyn Dodgers for a year. I think the guy that orchestrated that IDE was on junk.

I thought there were more than two, but there's only 44 episodes total, ending on a cliff hanger at the end of the second season. Luca's crew had moved to some banana republic toward the end of the second season.

I just read that Ali McGraw is 75. The darling of Love Story is 75. Can you believe it! There are probably plenty of Board members who don't recognize the name nor the movie. However, it was one of those movies that dominated the cinema landscape and watercooler conversations that year. Of course, Ali was a real beauty. Wow, how time flies and things change.

Not a fan of Love Story but i really like Ryan O'Neal mostly because of Paper Moon. I don't think i've actually seen Mcgraw in anything else.

Ali was a regular on the Winds of War tv series and Dynasty. She was a beautiful woman who was married to Steve McQueen. I used to take my Dates to see Love Story. it showed the ladies that I had a gentler and romantic side! It was a big movie back then. LOL

And it spawned one of the most famous (and stupid) quotes in movie history: "Love means never having to say you're sorry." What the hell does that even mean? Does anyone remember when 7Up did a commercial that was a spoof of Love Story? They even had the 7Up sitting in the convertible next to the "preppie" driving up to the big mansion.

Btw, the movie was filmed in my old neighborhood in the Bronx. What was supposed to be her dad's house in Rhode Island was actually 235th Street and the Christmas tree lot where Ryan O'Neal worked was on 233rd.

Try telling that to my wife when I do something stupid (which is fairly often lol).

I would agree. Most of the Stallone clusterfornication known as "Cobra" comes in second.

This whole sequence is just disturbing.

The background music...putting the newspaper on the grill...gun cleaning kit in the egg carton (in the freezer)...snipping the pizza slice...why? None of this makes sense.

Kelsey Grammar's Partners sitcom continue to experience declining ratings. Last night's are not in yet, but if they are as dismal as they've been, I think that cancellation is in the wind.

I would suspect so. FX had only ordered 10 or so episodes, with an option for 90 more.

That's a hell of a commitment to make on a show that's dropped by about 2/3rds (1.12 million for the premiere to 0.38 million for this last episode). Martin Lawrence is just terrible in the show.
