Lo how the mighty have fallen. At one time Paul Schrader, Brett Easton Ellis and Lindsay Lohan were either at the top on at least on the up escalator.

Now??? Well, things have changed somewhat.

As was mentioned in the comments, this is like a real life "Bowfinger" only sleazier, nastier and cheaper.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

It's one thing to abide by local laws/customs no matter how ridiculous and make movies that are within those laws or customs for that market.

But Chinese censors are so thorough and aggressive that they are starting to impact what movies the rest of us see. Much like the auto companies, who are making car models based on Chinese preferences, Hollywood is producing product that will sell in Beijing. Remember the Red Dawn remake that had North Koreans, instead of Chinese, invading the US?

Business is business. The talent in Hollywood tends liberal. But management does not. The focus is on making money. Whatever best accomplishes that is what they're gonna do. And if that means your film must pass the approval of a Communist functionary , then that is what's going to happen. In other news, water is wet... rolleyes If pushed Hollywood would likely submit to the same restrictions in the US.

Quote:
One production currently facing scrutiny is Disney and Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” parts of which were filmed in Beijing in the last month. It proceeded under the watchful eye of Chinese bureaucrats, who were invited to the set and asked to advise on creative decisions, according to people briefed on the production who asked for anonymity to avoid conflict with government or company officials. Marvel and Disney had no comment.

Co-productions like “Kung Fu Panda 3” draw close monitoring by the censors at every step. Scripts are submitted in advance. Representatives of S.A.R.F.T., according to Mr. Cohen and others, may be present on the set to guard against any deviation. And there is an unofficial expectation that the government’s approved version of the film will be seen both in China and elsewhere, ..

Don't know if maybe somebody posted this in the sports thread or not, but I just heard that Al Pacino will be playing Joe Paterno in upcoming film. smile

Ever watch "Snakes On A Plane" on regular tv? Talk about ridiculous language "clean-up." lol "I've had it with these monkey fighting snakes on a plane." lol Seriously, in some cases I'd rather they just silence the words than add all the senseless dribble/drabble. rolleyes

I did a search on "edited for tv" scenes and found this. Take a look. You'll find some of it is hilarious. (Check out the Exorcist for instance) lol

A common edited insertion in movies is the phrase, "Forget you!" I've never heard this phrase uttered by anyone outside of edited movies, and it is as silly as it is meaningless.

"Criminal Minds" was AWESOME this week. Still the best police procedural on television.

I haven't seen the doc yet Yogi but keep meaning too. Yes, quite a huge family. I remember Ethel was pregnant for the youngest daughter when Bobby was assassinated. frown

TIS, that child is Rory Kennedy who produces the show. Really was a fascinating programme about an extraordinary woman!!

Ahh yes, that's her Yogi. I've seen her on tv but forgot her name.

Btw, does anyone else watch the SyFy series, Being Human? confused Not as good as Walking Dead but still good. They also have a UK version on the BBC channel which is very similar only characters have different names. Good as well.

PLUS, I really get a kick out of and like the British version of Law & Order. I keep waiting for it to come back and have only seen repeats. I liked it.

Camarel,

I've loved all the Law & Orders (especially the original). I like that the UK version is so much like the original only with a foreign twist (at least to me). I was so sad to see the younger detective get killed. I don't know any of the actors but whenever I see it's on, I watch.

Btw, for my fellow Americans, check this out

Yes, many times they have stories "ripped from the headlines" as they say, not really true but reflect current news.

I assume these kinds of shows aren't your cup of tea. I say that because you live in Brooklyn and don't know about Law & Order? confused

I don't watch those shows. But my friend told me they did one when he was in Rao's with his daughter. Some guy said something about women who was there with her boyfriend. The boy friend pulled out his pisto and fired a shot at the guy. He just missed my friends daughter. If he had hit her they would have thrown the guy in one of the ovens and cooked him. My friend has a lot of friends in that place.

I read that during the last 2 seasons of Friends that Jennifer Aniston was paid $1 million per episode.

Indeed! Life is not fair.
