I'm not watching "Pawn Stars" again until Corey shaves that stupid beard.

And what's with Chumlee's teeth?

They're too white. It's like that episode of "Friends" when Ross left the trays in his mouth for too long.

I don't think it was "The Sopranos" as much as it was the fact that it just wasn't very realistic. They set it in the present day. It should have been a period piece set before the gentrification of Hell's Kitchen.

If you walk around the West 50's and 60's today, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Starbucks or a Panera bread. Plus, those kids were a little too young. It should have been a cast in their mid to late 20's, and it should have been set no later than 1990.

But all that said, I still enjoyed it.

Cracks me up this afternoon, as I'm driving up Las Vegas Blvd to take care of some business at City Hall...

It's about 112 downtown, and there's a line of people a block long to visit that pawn shop.

Has anyone watched Orphan Black? I just started recently, and i have to say i'm really enjoying it so far. Tatiana Marsaly is amazing, it's beyond ridiculous that she didn't even get a nomitation at the Emmys or Golden Globes. I'd have gave her a nomination for Best Actress for the main character, as well as a nomination for Supporting Actress for just about any of the clones she plays.

I was watching Gunslingers on the History Channel. It was about Wyatt Earp. In the 20s he was a consultant in Hollywood. It said that he used to spend time in the studio commissary mentoring an extra by the name of Marion Morris - otherwise known as John Wayne. Wayne stated that part of his western characterizations were based on his conversation with Wyatt.

Yeah i saw that on an O.k Corall documentary. I also heard that he was a boxing referee for a while, he was actually ref at a Jack Dempsey fight in the 20s.

Noticed all 12 seasons of NYPD Blue are on Amazon Prime; I had not watched that since about 2001.

It's amusing to go to a stretch between Seasons 2-4 (about 1995-96) and seeing how many guest starts that wound up on the Sopranos several years later -- Ralphie, Carmine Junior, Tony's lawyer Mink, Artie, Charmaine, Melfi's ex-husband, Christopher, Gigi Cestone, Mikey Palmice just to name a few. Quite a few of the guest stars went on to other long running franchises, like SVU, Oz, The Wire, The Shield and The Sopranos, just to name a few shows.

Looking back, I recall how controversial the show was -- there were a number of ABC affiliates that refused to air the first few episodes. Sure there's quite a bit of nudity and liberal use of "asshole" and "douchebag," but certainly not the level of The Sopranos.

In my opinion, "NYPD Blue" was the best police procedural ever. Especially the first five seasons, which are thankfully all available on dvd now.

They were stuck on the fourth season for literally seven years. But Shout Factory finally acquired the rights and just released seasons five and six back to back, and I think season seven comes out in the Fall.

Great show smile.

Looks like a Sept. 30 release date for Season 7.

Another procedural I enjoyed from the 1990s was Homicide: Life on the Street. We had compiled a list of actors and actresses that were on both H:LOTS and The Wire, and I think it was over 100.

As Itsdajacket said, "Blue" in now on Prime. I started watching earlier this summer and then Amazon had to go and release HBO stuff. So I got through 3/4 of Season 1 and then I felt the urge to rewatch "Sopranos" on Prime. I liked watching "Blue" when working on the treadmill. Maybe Sipowitz's rotund appearance is a good subtle motivator.

Caruso was great and then they got really lucky to land Jimmy Smits. Not many shows lose a lead character and don't drop off or improve, but "Blue" did just that. But after they killed off Bobby Simone, I watched but the show lost something huge. I never saw the last 2 seasons.

I'm going to agree on the first five seasons point -- you can see a drop off about the time Ricky Schroeder joins the cast.

Jimmy Smits' last regular appearance aired November 24, 1998, and the first episode of The Sopranos aired January 13, 1999. It's as if the torch had been passed, as far as envelope-pushing television was concerned.

I think the most remarkable thing about the show was how they took a character who had basically no redeeming qualities at the outset of the first season, and made you care so deeply for him. For my money, Sipowicz is one of the most iconic characters in the history of television. Warts and all smile.

I remember when the show first aired, I assumed Franz' character was a more obnoxious version of his Norman Buntz character on Hill Street Blues. Turns out I was wrong.

In the end, he was a classic tragic hero -- noble and highly competent, but with his fatal flaws. And with his flaws -- the drinking, the prejudice, et al -- he tried to move beyond them. Even as he mellowed, he could still scare the bejeezus out of anyone.

This is one of my favorite Sipowicz bits:

I watched Star Wars- Return of the jedi, last night with the gf as she had not saw it before. |Good film still, my only complaint is the very ending is different to the original as Lucas changed the old Aniken Skywalker with the most recent actor from episodes 1,2,3. When Luke see the ghosts of Obi and Yoda

The seeds of Sipowicz's character were planted in the first season. The viewer sees him being a rogue cop, regularly seeing a hooker, and continuously drinking. Yet after he gets shot by Giardella in the first half of Season 1, his partner John Kelly and then Sylvia Costas both discover some of Andy's better qualities. While Andy is rough around the edges, he's got some soft spots too.

It's too bad Caruso was such an a-hole back then and left the show because of his ego. The whole plotline with Licalsi killing the mobster and her involvement with Kelly was great. But her character became null & void once Caruso left.

In all fairness, Goom. I've read that he's still an asshole lol.

I remember reading that by the last few seasons of "CSI: Miami," that Emily Procter wouldn't even run lines with him. But who knows if it's true?

Didn't Larry David once discuss "degrees of being an asshole?" Speaking of, is he ever coming back with another season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm?" I'm missing Leon and that neurotic old curmudgeon.

Goombah -- thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.

With respect to Curb Your Enthusiasm, this is an article from (exactly) a year ago, where Larry David was still undecided.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Curb-Your-Enthusiasm-Return-1068284.aspx

Now for Caruso, here's this from 1995:

http://articles.latimes.com/1995-03-12/entertainment/ca-41938_1_david-caruso/3

Not only was he looking to triple his salary, but demanding Fridays off, and only working 15 of 22 episodes.
