I agree with DeNiro. I found Kojak a bit annoying but I loved Columbo. smile

I loved him too, DN. But Kojak was more stylish in those three piece suits wink.

Kojak drove a '74 Buick Century. Colombo drove a Peugeot 403. Neither one of those cars was a chick magnet lol.

You can guess what I think of him personally and professionally, but regardless Bill O'Reilly has seen LINCOLN and is predicting it'll win Best Picture, Spielbrg win Best Director, and Daniel Day-Lewis win Best Actor and Tommy Lee Jones for Supporting Actor.

The movie does sound interesting to me. I don't think there's been a movie in recent years about Lincoln has there, (Vampire Hunter doesn't count). lol Btw, does the movie cover Lincoln's assassination? confused

I didn't like Kojak and Columbo was ok, but always looked like an unmade bed.

The Holy Trinity of tv cops of the 70s were Barnaby Jones, Joe Mannix and Frank Cannon.

I used like Quincy, who wasn't a detective, but thought he was. I saw an episode several months ago and wondered why I liked the show.

Anyone watch and new shows this season? I'm more or less sticking with my old favorites. However, I have watched the first few episodes of a show called "Arrow", about a rich man who was stranded on a secluded island and thought dead for 5 years. He returns as somewhat of a superhero. Not bad so far.

The movie covers the last 4 months (January to April 1865) of Lincoln's Presidency. So I guess they will?

I'm sure the movie is okay, but how can I take a movie about Lincoln seriously if he's not killing vampires?

I enjoy ARROW (Why the title? It's the Green Arrow superhero from DC Comics.)

It is a very solid program so far, I admire that in serial fashion they repeatedly introduce new elements that you take for granted, only for those elements to unload onto new characters and storylines and details which is quickly threatening to give ARROW a fully fleshed out universe before the 1st season is even out. (Consider the hero's stereotypical ex-girlfriend, who out of the blue showed off her mastery of Judo.)

In tone it's pretty much Green Arrow meets BATMAN BEGINS. Why not? Its working so far.

(Though I think he's less Batman and more psychotic violent vigilante like the Punisher, but I don't mind that. I enjoyed last week's episode when he made that pension-robbing white collar crook give back the money or else eat a metal fan.)

Plus I'm sure the weekly shirt off, grauitous beefcake training montages will please many audience demographics. Right TIS?

RR,

Well, now that you mention it, yea, the guy does have a body!! Whew!! wink

I had NO idea it was based on a comic book hero but it is entertaining so far. Sort of like Superman without the glasses and Zorro without the mask, it seems odd that people don't recognize him considering he only wears a hoodie. smile

I am shamefully and newly addicted to Long Island Medium. I know that so much of it has to be set up, but I can't help myself. I just love Theresa Caputo and her family. They remind me of some of my cousins!

I don't get Showtime but Homeland does look good from the little previews I've seen. What is the premise of the show? Homeland Security I presume? confused

It's about a marine who's been POW for eight years in Iraq and finally comes back home. A CIA agent who is not mentally stable suspects that he has turned into a terrorist. It's an interesting tango between the pair. Both leads won an Emmy for their roles if you remember.

This Homeland is an absolute hit. Mrs. Mark got Showtime just for this show. I can say it is just as good as any Sopranos season ever made. Good stuff.

I highly recommend you start watching The Wire, for me it's the best TV show ever made along with The Sopranos..

I LOVED and ADORED "The Wire". I think "Homeland" has been really well done if you set the highest bar for "The Wire". It's only in its 2nd season, but so far it's as good if not actually better than "The Wire." tongue

Make movies people want to see. How about that???

Hollywood Decline

Quote:
LOS ANGELES — On Feb. 24 Hollywood will turn out for the Oscars.

But it’s starting to feel as if it might be “The Last Picture Show.”
Next year’s Academy Awards ceremony — the 85th since 1929 — will be landing in a pool of angst about movies and what appears to be their fraying connection to the pop culture.
After the shock of last year's decline in the number of tickets sold for movies domestically, to 1.28 billion, the lowest since 1995 (and attendance is only a little better this year) film business insiders have been quietly scrambling to fix what few will publicly acknowledge to be broken.

That is, Hollywood’s grip on the popular imagination, particularly when it comes to the more sophisticated films around which the awards season turns. Several industry groups, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars, and the nonprofit American Film Institute, which supports cinema, are privately brainstorming about starting public campaigns to convince people that movies still matter.

That seemed self-evident only a few years ago. But the mood has turned wistful as people in the industry watch the momentum shift toward television.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

The Wire is an incredible show, it often gets overlooked by most people IMO.

Anybody watch that cop show on CBS called Blue Bloods? I enjoy that show.
