I'm a GF nut and I am already surprised that I have not read this yet.

But I read GF Returns and it was horrible, so should I read this?

I bought this book when it came out in November last year, and I am still not done with it. If it was a good book I would have finished it a LONG time ago.

If you hated "Returns", then you'll probably really hate "Revenge".
I could have gotten the book for $2 on eBay, and even that was too much to spend on this garbage.

The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters. Cus D'Amato

The shame of it is, Winegardner writes Micheal so much better than he does in Returns. He just doesn't have him in the story enough and still dicks around with too many details. And then the story itself just isn't all that interesting either.

I didn't like the way Tom Hagen dies. Sorry if it spoils anything for you but that alone made me dislike the story.

I am about to start reading this book tomorrow and it better not be 50% Geraci and the other 50 Sonny's daughters

So is it worth reading?

He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!"

So what’s the labyrinth?

That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

Much like the "GF Returns" it was really a novel about Geraci and a bunch of minor characters no one cares about. Rather than using Geraci and other characters to highlight Michael, Winegarder makes them props for his creation. I know this fact has been mentioned in earlier posts but it just so frustrating. If Winegarder wanted to write a crime novel about a character he invented (and probably thinks of himself as), why screw up the GF mythos to do so? Also, he is one of the most boring writers I have ever encountered. I read the Godfather cover to cover in one day all those years ago...both of Winegarder's sequels are sheer torture. I read the first to see what it was like and kept hoping that it would get better. I read "GF Revenge" to be fair to the author and to see if there was any improvement. "GF Revenge" is marginally better but Winegarder only could go up from his first attempt. How sad

These sort of remind me of the new Clone Wars film and the other spinoff series that were/are planned from the SW series. For me, the canon will always be the book and the 3 films. Same with Star Wars - the canon is the 6 movies.

Read it but don't expect The Godfather. Expect something more along the lines of The Young and The Restless.

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

I thought it was better than Godfather Returns, but he obviously didn't do much background checking.
