This is just a guess, but since he seems to be standing behind a bar...maybe the bartender where the attempted hit on Frankie took place.

I don't want to give any hints yet but.....based on Apple's reply it should be noted that this is a Modern Day Picture taken very recently....you should be looking for someone about 30 yrs younger...

This is tough. I'm guessing the person (is it you?) would've been roughly in their mid-30's when GF2 was made. It could be someone (an extra) so obscure that no one will guess it, like one of Michael's young buttonmen (e.g., Joe Lo Grippo), or a cop (Carmine Foresta)...

Tell us, is the person at least listed on this page ? wink

I'm trying to put hair on this guy and imagine a younger/thinner person. The face does look familiar (I think). If it was an obscure character, then I probably won't get it. ohwell Great guessing game though. wink

I think so Geoff. His weight and some makeup could have made him look older. Think about it for a moment. In the very begining of GFII we are shown a young Don Ciccio, right? Then when Vito goes back to Italy to avenge the death of his family, we are then shown a much older Don Ciccio, right? Obviously makeup for that scene. If the actor was in his 30's back when GFII was made, that would put him in his 60's now, and this guy looks to be in his 60's in this picture.

My money is that it's Don Ciccio.

What's the prize for winning this contest anyway? A weeks worth of blockbuster rentals? wink lol

I've searched for a photo of Don Ciccio, but cannot seem to fine one. Perhaps our esteem SC, the king of photos, can provide us with one to compare to the picture above.

I have searched the internet looking for a match for this photo, matching it with all the photos I can find of characters from The Godfather: Part II, but to no avail. Here's a list of the characters it could be (remember, this guy is still alive).

Al Pacino (definitely not)
Robert Duvall (ditto)
Robert De Niro (nope)
G.D. Spradlin (Geary)
Richard Bright (Al Neri)
Gastone Moschin (Don Fanucci)
Bruno Kirby (young Clemenza)
Frank Sivero (Genco Abbandando)
John Aprea (young Sal Tessio)
James Caan (definitely not)
Abe Vigoda (nope)
Gianni Russo (Carlo, doubt it)
Oreste Baldini (child Vito, although he seems too young to be it)
Giuseppe Sillato (Don Ciccio)
Mario Cotone (young Don Tommasino)
James Gounaris (Anthony Corleone)
Carmine Caridi (Carmine Rosato)
Danny Aiello (Tony Rosato)
Peter Donat (Questadt)
Roger Corman (Senator #2)

*NOTE
I excluded all the males who's information wasn't provided, and the ones who were obviously not it (save Pacino and the rest, for comic relief). I also excluded extras, as trying to figure that out would be futile.

I don't think its Don Ciccio - here he is just before he had Vito's mother killed:

[Linked Image]

I'm betting he's the actor who met Vito in Part II. Check out the eyebrows in this scene when Vito goes back to Sicily to kill Ciccio. Thats him on the left (and he bears a resemblance to Guest's picture):

It's Giuseppe Sillato, who played Don Ciccio. Compare the photo posted in the link with the closeup on p. 240 of Harlan Lebo's "The Godfather Legacy." Look for a mole on the left cheek, and an irregularly shaped bag under the left eye.

I don't care how much makeup they gave him, but I really doubt Ciccio was in his 30's back then!

I'm not saying he doesn't resemble him, because he does -- many features match up almost perfectly. But I just really doubt Dick Smith woulda spent as much time or more on him as he did on Brando, making him look much older -- and realistically so.

Of course, I could be wrong. Guest24 needs to comment on it... tongue

Why would you think he should have been in mid-30's back then? Does that man in the picture look in his mid-60's to you?

I don't know, there is a period of time between mid-40's to mid-70's that men do look quite the same while aging. I think Don Cardi is right. That's Don Cicco! grin

This is a recent photo of GASTONE MOSCHIN, the famous Don Fanucci:

I think so Geoff. His weight and some makeup could have made him look older. ...[/b]
It can't possibly be Don Ciccio. That actor was obviously already in his late 50's at the very least ... even in the early scene when Vito's mother is killed.

Anyway...why on earth would they have hired an actor in his 30's to play a character who is probably 20 years older. This was Hollywood...not a high school play.

I think it might be the actor who played young Don Tomassino, who aided young Vito in killing Ciccio...and was then crippled by the gunshots while escaping.

For once Apple & I agree on something. I have to admit that the comparison with the Don Ciccio still from the film is convincing though the mouth appears different, but I agree with the Don & Apple, why go to the bother of making a younger actor up to look older and then even older in the revenge scene?? Anyone recognise the booze bottles on the shelf behind him??

Wild guess, is it Livio Giorgi, the singer of Senza Mama?? wink

My guess: Giuseppe Sillato (Don Ciccio) was between 40 and 45 (the scene where he ordered the shooting of Antonio Andolini's wife) when GF II was made (in 1973), and let's say the picture is taken 30 years later, then he has to be between 70 and 75 now. That's possible, no?

No, it's not possible. That actor had to be at least 55 at the time of the scene you're referring to.

People seem to be stuck on this Don Ciccio answer ... can't anyone find a bio of this guy so we can know when he was born or even if he's still alive?

I've tried every possible search for this guy's bio, but to no avail. Nothing comes up about his date of birth. No pics either.

It's time for the original poster of this question to reveal who this mystery person from GFII is!

And I'm sorry Don Cardi, but I think this game should go on for a while, Turnbull is going to show in this thread who's the king of GF knowledge.

Still think it's Don Ciccio, he could have been between 40 and 45 in the movie, Apple, with lot's of makeup

"Ciccio" (or "Cicc'") is the diminuitive of Francesco. His formal name is Don Francesco, but he's also known as Don Ciccio. In GFII, Sra. Corleone calls him "Don Ciccio" when she implores him to spare Vito's life. But that night, when his henchmen are shouting their warnings in the town's streets that whoever's hiding Vito should give him up, they say, in Italian, that "Don Francesco will thank you for it."

In fact, he could have his own family if he ever decide to leave that one toilet town he lives in now. lol

It's really hard to decided who is right and who is wrong. One one side you have guys like DC and Turnbull, two guys who seem to know a lot about the mob and the godfather movies saying that they think that this guy is Don Cico from Italy. Then on the other side you have Geoff and SC who also know a whole lot about the godfather movies. After all wihtout Geoffs knowledge of the gf movies, we would not have this site. And from what I've read SC is defiantley one of the top people here especially when it comes to movies and actors.

Can I stay nutral and be the negotiater please? smile lol

I know this place, over in New Jersey, an Italian restaurant called Casa Dante. We can all go there and decide this thing. They have an old toilet with the box and the chain. DS can be the negotiator. Plaw can order the Garlic Bread, it's the best in town. We can then try and decide who this mystery man is, over a nice dinner. But if SC gets up to go to the toilet, better yet if he asks permission to go to the toilet, then we're in trouble!

Okay, here are some more shots... I wish I had more of Mystery Man.

Compare their noses and ears, and Don Ciccio has a DeNiro-like mole on his face which doesn't seem to be as pronounced as our Mystery Man's. And I don't care how much makeup he has on in the early GF2 scenes -- he's not in his 30's or 40's! The makeup is in the bottom right when he's older.

[Linked Image]

I went through a bunch of possibilities in GF2, and none matched. This match does seem to be the closest so far, but I've yet to be convinced... wink

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

True, the mole isn't as pronounced--it may have been more prominent when he was younger, or have been darkened for the camera. But for me, the convincer is the bag under the left eye.

Don Ciccio has huge bags under both eyes -- like many people do... wink It can also simply be a matter of lighting.

But look at the nose: Mystery Man's is flatter and wider.
And look at his ears: Ciccio has huge ear lobes, and in this pick, MM doesn't appear to have any at all.... And, Don Ciccio has a pronounced dimple in his chin. I can't accept a bag under someone's eye as proof. tongue

How old do you think Giuseppe Sillato is in these pics? It's obviously not an actor they brought over from the states -- especially a middle-aged one they could dress up too look 20 yrs older. I think they found a local who looked like they envisioned to play the part. He had been in 2 previous movies, and hasn't worked since GF2.

I gotta run - will be back later... wink

But after all this, I know it's gonna turn out to be him anyway! lol

Do we know when this mystery photo was taken? Are you sure it was taken 30 years after the movie was made? This guy through the eyes just doesn't look like Don Cicci to me. But then it doesn't really look like anyone I can think of but I still think it could be an older Fanucci.

I'm with you on this one, JG. I noticed the dimple too, as well as the fact that Don Ciccio has longer, straighter eyebrows with a low arch towards the outside. Mystery Man's eyebrows arch in the middle, and they're thicker. Also, not only does MM lack the dimple, but he's also got one of those horizontal half-moon creases under his bottom lip, which Ciccio doesn't have. Hmmm... unless that's a scar.

Also, the crow's feet by Ciccio's eyes turn up by the eyelid, while MM's turn down onto the cheekbone. And speaking of lines in the face, notice how Ciccio's laugh lines around his mouth are really deep? MM's aren't as deep, and furthermore, the line on the left side isn't straight, it's kind of uneven, like one little part of it doesn't crease as deep as the rest. I notice that because I have it when I smile, too.

It's tough to tell, really... I mean we could be WAYYY off. And if we're right and it's not really him, that's a lot of coincidences for two actors in a movie. The mole, the moustache (which looks about similar), etc.

Also, MM could be well into his 70's, maybe early 80's if he's really healthy. I don't think he necessarily has to be in his 60's. And if it is Ciccio, then he's gained weight, which could make a big difference in how his face looks. So it's not impossible. But still, I'm not convinced it's him.

Sorry DC. wink

By the way, in the bottom left picture-- is Ciccio about to sneeze? It looks like he's breathing in for it, and the next picture should be "CHOO!!" lol

Well this "Guest 24" must have been someone inside...very close. I know several people in here, who, like Zasa, lack the wit to pull something off like this stunt. But whoever did it, I am guessing it was just business, nothing personal.

YEs, this "Guest 24" seems to have vanished. Now we need to figure out who it is. I can rule out certain people because like Zasa they lack the wit to do such a thing. But whoever did it was close, very close....inside. And it wasn't personal, it was just business.

I said in my last post:

and it was not an answer to this question.

But a guess who the mystery man could be.

Just to keep things clear.

But if that 'guest 24' isn't going to come back (just saying one letter is enough), then I don't believe him anymore. Maybe it's just a picture of his grandfather, or whatever.

Yes. In 'The Godfather'.

He was brought back for GFIII in some higher role...though I don't know what that is since I never could sit through GFIII.

I don't recall him EVER being in GFII.

Oh damn, big mistake. How stupid of me!
Because it was in Sicilia (the Calo scenes), I was confused because of the flashback scenes in GF II which were also in that part of the world.

But ehh ... I never realized he was in GF III. Which scenes? I havent seen it many times, so the plot, and especially the characters (who's who??) still remain vague for me.

Here's a link to a pretty recent photo of Frank Sivero (the dude who played Genco in Part II. He also played Carbone in Goodfellas. I've no idea how old the pic is, but I doubt its more than a few years old. Which means I doubt the picture in the original post is Frank Sivero.

Frank Civero

I just popped in the DVD to see two characters I thought might be MM. The singer in the show that young Vito and Genco go to when Genco wants Vito to meet his heart-throb. Wasn't him. Then I thought maybe its the girl's father, the owner of the theatre. Not him either. Not even Abbandando the grocer.

I think it's one of Mike's assasins they fished of the creek in Tahoe.

Everytime the orchestra in GF2 is mentioned. it cracks me up! I just can't help but picture Pentangelli trying to lead the orchestra into playing a Tarentella!

Frankie : "Boom ba boom ba boom ba boom ba...."

and the orchestra thinking :

"All around the mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel!"

and Frankie losing his mind cursing in Italian :

"Ba Fongule!"

lol lol lol

Definately one of the funniest scenes in the trilogy.

i know how its pronounced and its not just NY, when i go to Calabria ppl say it like that to, but u can hear a difference cause they mean to say va fa n cuolo but it sounds like a B, its a thing with the "V", likke my family when they say voglio, it sounds like boglio, but thats just how they say it but if someone purposly said it with a "b" u can usally pick up on it.

Are we sure Mystery Man isn't Abbandando the grocer? I just watched the Fanucci scenes and I really think Genco's dad could be him. Age wise, he looks about 40, which would make him seventies now, and he has facial potential, shall we say lol

I checked out the site at the link from which this photo is posted.

It appears as if the picture was recently taken on May 14th, and uploaded to this photo site on May 16th.

My guess? It's the guy's uncle or somebody, who everyone tells he looks just like Frank Pentangelli or someone from The Godfather, so the guy figured he'd have a little fun with us.

Well, it was fun, at first anyway. It's an interesting idea for a thread, but how many recent photos can you find on most of these actors.

We are all assuming the mystery man is an actor whom appeared in GFII. Perhaps it is a producer, assistant of some sort, stage hand, one of any number of people who work on a movie without appearing on screen.
