Is it possible to make a more depressing end to a movie than the end of Godfather part3?
I think not.
That`s the best reason to make a Godfather part 4.
And let it have a happy ending.
Vincent Marcini finish off all his enemies in the underworld and reaches the top as a happy and rich businessman, with a happy family.
Of course he needs to kick lots af ass.
He needs to kick the shit out of all the other families as well as some new russian mobsters along with some assholes from Columbia. But that`s gonna be fun.
When it`s all over he is a respected and loved Godfather in the legal world and feared by criminals.
The Corleone family needs to live on.

Oh yeah, and let's get Michael Bay to do it.

The trilogy was filled with sadness,(and meant to be tragic)it wasn't supposed to be a fairy tale.

Hey, how's it going?

I think the first Godfather had many happy moments.
Things started to go downhill in the second part and Mike became a very lonley man.
But the end of part3? Was that the end of everything?
If that`s the case, it couldn`t be more depressing.

But this is so typical for gangster movies, not only the Godfather but also Godfellas and Scarface.
A happy beginning that ends in tragedy.

Yep, crime doesn't pay.

Though The Godfather was MUCH more deep than both those films, and is more based on Family than crime. Which ultimatley sends Michael into his loneliness, the tragedy of The Godfather. Though I do see what you're saying. I loved it when we saw a smiling Sonny and Vito at the wedding, even a happy Fredo.

Hey, how's it going?

Wiseguy2000, I know GF4 is gonna be made, don`t ask me why, but I certainly know. I have that feeling and that`s it. And about a happy ending, let me tell you it could not be in that way. The GF4 script is written by Mario Puzo before his death and Paramount Picture has it, Vincent is a bad Don and is gonna get into drugs business against the family rules, I think the movie could end with Vincent in jail and the Corleone empire falling down, it would be a nowadays Cosa Nostra story, you know that happened in the real life and I wish it would not have happened. there is another reason. The Vito`s phrase "Drugs will destroy us in the years to come" has to come true, and Vincent will be the one in charge to take the family to the ruin, there is a rule.
1-The first generation will build the empire(Vito)
2-The second one will keep it and make it stronger(Michael)
3-The third one will fail and take the empire to the ruin(Vincent)

The best end would be if Vincent manage to do what Michael didn`t.
Michael wanted to get out of the crime scene. To be a legal and respected business man who loves, protects and lives in harmony with his family.

Vincent might feel guilty because of the death of Michael`s daughter. He get`s some wake-up calls and flipps over to be a good Don.
But first he needs to kick some ass. He needs to get rid of the other families and gangsters once and for all.
In the end he should be feared by criminals.
Respected in the business world and even by the goverment.
And loved by the people.
He should become the Don that Michael dreamed about to be but never became.

i doin't agree with a happy ending...it would go against everything the godfather is. i mean part one was the closest to a happy ending....and it was depressing to watch the dooring being closed on kay. but i do think that al pacino should be back. yes it shows his death in the third one....yes he gave away is title. but...the godfather is about mikes arc. so a fourth one without mike wouldn't really be a godfather to me. and if they do make the fourth one, maybe now would be a great time...considering that de niro isn't geting any younger...not is bruno kirby (clamenza in the flash backs in part 2). hey...lets get abe vigoda to play tessio again...hahahaha..

Godfather can't end happily, too cliche.

Vincent should get shot outside a steak house and then the family should become marginalized by the Colombian and the Russian Mafia.

Michael is doomed to exile in Sicily where he dies.

Even though that is true. The ending to the GF trilogy was tragic in a very different way than say Scarface ended. There was no "go out in a hail of bullets" type ending. I think thats why GF is so enduring.

oooooo a happy Godfather. That defeats the purpose of a tragity. Why can't Pacino be in it? Micheals death at the end of part 3 was years in the future from when Mary gets shot, there are still many years to play in. Even so though, I really don't think a part 4 needs to be made. They would definately mess it up.

Also, Vincent takes the Corleones back into gambling big time, taking over someone else's casino and blowing it up to build his own monstrosity. He'll also end up owning the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand, which get robbed, but he goes after the thieves big time and gets back twice what was stolen.
