The obvious choice would be FFC, but there is a good chance he wont do it. In that case, I dont think it should be Sophia. Dont get me wrong, she's a great director, but in this world (the mob, I mean) The women have no authority or power, so my feeling is a female director might give the women of the family a little to much power.(oh man, I'm going to get killed for saying that)Martin Scorsese would probably be the next choice. He is a great director and I wouldnt mind having him direct the project, but he would definatly give the 4th movie a differnt flavor. Someone in the past threw out the idea of Robert De Niro, and that wouldnt be too bad of an idea. He is pretty inexperianced, as the only movie he's directed being A Bronx Tale, so there isnt too much to go on. He wrote that script, so he already had the vision in his head. I wouldnt objerct to him directing, but I would be very careful putting him on board to direct. But Francis has never said NO, so you never know.

FFC won't do it. Mark my words. If talks ever heat up again, he'll drop out from the beginning. He has more money than God and hasn't directed a movie since 1997's The Rainmaker, if I'm not mistaken. He just doesn't seem interested in making movies anymore, not to mention another Godfather.

However - the Coppola's are all about the family, and I could see it getting passed down to Sophia. I said before that a women's eye could bring an interesting aspect to a Part IV. However, the chances are slim that she would do it too. There are several other Coppola's out there who are directing. I think Roman Coppola is directing music videos and he could be a choice.

One good thing about getting a Coppola to do it, is that they would be able to get input and advice from FFC, which would help keep the main themes and feel of the Godfather in tact.

However, if FFC & Co. do turn it down, I think it would have to be offered to Scorcesse, who would turn it down upon impact as well. No chance a legendary director is going to touch a film classic. Scorcesse has too much admiration for classic movies and would probably just see the whole thing as a chance to cash in on the Godfather name. He'd skip it too.

If it came down to that, and they still wanted to make a movie, I would offer it to Robert Altman. I normally don't like his movies, but I think with a Part IV, it could work, especially if it is set in the 1930's. He is great at handling large casts and has a great eye for detail. That would be really interesting.

And if it went past that, I wouldn't want it to be made. At this point it would probably get offered to someone like Renny Harlin or Michael Bay who would just ruin it.

I think the Roman Coppola idea is the most probable.
