Umm.. this HAS to be a joke!from http://www.moviehole.net/ "The Godfather 4" to film in Australia?Posted on Thursday Oct 24, 2002. Australian Newspaper The Herald Sun has an update on "The Godfather 4". According to the paper, a Hollywood Studio is in negotiations with heads of Melbourne and Queensland about filming the movie there. According to the article, the movie is scheduled to be filming here late next year. "An Australian industry insider said a big Hollywood studio had talks about shooting some of the film in Melbourne and Queensland. Shooting is expected to begin late next year", says the article. "Publisher Random House yesterday confirmed it had signed a deal with the estate of Godfather author Mario Puzo, who died in 1999". Expect plenty of local casting to occur, should Australia agree to take on the production. And why wouldn't they! (as long as Sofia Coppola's not coming for the ride). ### Uhh... WHAT?!

Me too! But on the bright side, if they've already made that decision, it sounds like it's a go. Then again, part of the beauty of GF was it's authenticity, including Sicilian locations. I do hope they shoot some there. TIS PS Thinking more about it, doesn't the idea of filming in another country since NY/Sicily is where GF began, kind of make it seem "chinsy?" (Nothing at all against Australia I am thinking in terms of authenticy. TIS

I guess this is normal... a movie fanatic friend of mine told me: a lot of companies film there now to save money BUT, also keep in mind that the website is based in Australia and may just be passing on a "fishing" rumor. "fishing" - hoping to plant the idea in somebody's mind. Chances are the "report" arose from some guys in Australia's commerce department. I think Australia has massive tax benefits for filming there Let's hope they start "fishing" elsewhere! No offense to our folks down under, but this is The Godfather we're talking about here!

I wonder if Vincent will be sitting behind his desk with a koala on his lap? Man, sorry about all the bad jokes - but I hope they mean they'd be using a soundstage there, not actual filming locations! What would we get? "Godfather of the Rings"?? (I know, I know, that was New Zealand ) A soundstage can be anywhere, so that wouldn't be so bad... but of course, this is all just rumor and speculation still

I wasn't a member of this board until I saw the comments about Australia. Am I the only Australian here?? Anyway, apparently the Matrix was a big hit, and that was made in Australia. What's so bad about Oz? It's not all kangaroos AND I HATE STEVE IRWIN!!!! That is NOT a real Aussie accent, he is SO faking it!! Really, would it being filmed in Australia irritate you all THAT MUCH?? I read that someone posted that if it was filmed here it wouldn't be worth watching. Why? Can I please hear the reasoning behind the answer? Everyone keeps saying- "Australia?? NOOOO!!" Why??? If it's about accents- were there any Aussies in the Matrix?? (i can't remember-only seen it once)Simon Baker in The guardian is an aussie. Can you tell? (i have no clue) If you think that we sound funny, you should hear yourselves!! 2 weeks sgo i met this 22 year old guy from New York, and iI felt like I was on an episode of seinfeld- NO JOKE!! It was eerie. Maybe it'll just be in Australia so that they can save money. Like in the Matrix, they'll pretend to be in America, and Australia will probably have nothing at all to do with the plot. I betcha that they won't even mention the country throughout the entire movie. I'm reading all this slang that you've put in your posts and I find it all very entertaining. koalas?? Yeah I've held one- ONCE. At a theme park. And like Americans don't have barbecues. Please. You all seem to assume that they'll be casting Aussies with speaking roles. Probably not- or IF it is filmed here, they'll have to pretend to sound American- which we do half the time anyway, cos your accent cracks us up. And to whoever said No offense to the Aussies, but I think the 'love-affair the Americans had with the Aussies are over. We are in love with ourselves. AMERICAN PRIDE that just backs up the insulting remarks that most Australians make about you. NO OFFENSE I have no idea why I'm so defensive. My apologies if I irritated anyone, but these comments expressed what little you know about Australia- or are you just exaggerating? Personally I really hope that these posts weren't serious. If they were, i shall crack up laughing, then kill steve Irwin and Paul hogan for making the entire 18 million of us aussies look stupid. - Kat P.S- I have never heard anyone say G'day (except those absurd characters in Aussie movies)

Kat 666, First of all, my apologizes if you were offended. The reason all of us are against filming of the GF in Australia is NOT a put-down to Australia or its citizens. It's simply because the GF series is based around the Italian crime family, and to see them operate from Downunder is not very realistic for the film. The first three were filmed in NY and Sicily,( and Vegas) and I (and I think the others) feel that filming anywhere else would take away from the authenticity of the story. Believe me it is nothing against your great Country at all. We do have some from Down Under on this board, hopefully we can hear from them as well, as they are GF fans and can let us know how they feel. Once again, I apologize if you were offended, but the comments made were not meant as a put down to Australia, only to the movie people considering filming there. TIS

All my posts were tongue-in-cheek as well, of course! Australia is one of the places I'd love to visit because it seems like such a beautiful country! Didn't mean to offend - Me dispiace! Was just trying to be funny w/ such funny news. Had they said Ireland or Armenia, I'd've done the same thing

Why care where they film the inside scenes? The movie set could be located in downtown Baghdad. But obviously the outside on-location scenes must be in NY/Sicily or wherever the storyline dictates. Afterall, parts of GF1 were filmed on hollywood sets anyway.

Kat666, dont be offended At least we got you out of the 'shadows' and onto the board. Australia is a beautiful place..and it's no swipe at Australia as such. I would feel the same if they said they would come and film the GF in England, I'd think WTF..forgetaboutit. The matrix was a fantasic film too. I didnt know it was filmed in Oz and it made no difference to my enjoyment either way. Surely you wouldnt want to see an 'Aussie GF' location film though? The authenticity of the scenery and surroundings is a good part of the films and much appreciated by me and I think most others too. That is what we poked fun at..as Dons Advisor politely pointed out, it would probably only be for inside scenes anyway. I'd like to welcome you here anyway, stay and post, we're ok really I admire your patriotism too FH

I suppose we'd never know where "indoor" shots were filmed. But If they are filming there only for indoor shots, why bother going that far to film? Hey Deathkiss I have many relatives in your area (Royal Oak, Warren, Sterling Heights). Say hi to them for me when you see them will you?? Btw, it it snowing there yet?? TIS

I was trying to estimate how much of the GF Trilogy was "on location." I think Sicily is more significant than NYC because lots of NYC scenes are indoors, while Sicily scenes are often outdoors. Overall, I would guess that about 20% of the trilogy was "on location" - the rest could have been a studio anywhere.
GF - All the Sicily scenes had to be there. But much of the "New York" stuff was indoors. Sonny beating Carlo was outside. So was the Paulie hit. But the Mall scenes (outside or inside) could have been anywhere. Much of the film could have been anywhere.
GF2 - All the Deniro flashback stuff had to be in NYC. The outside party had to be Tahoe. But the rest could have been anywhere under some constraints (i.e. Cuba was really Dominican Republic).
GF3 - Again, Sicily scenes had to be there. A few scenes were outside in NY .. i.e. Vincent's hit on zasa, Vincent and Mary in front of Genco. Otherwise, NY scenes were mostly indoors.
As a New Yorker, I'm not arguing that it shouldn't be here. But I am trying to "think how others would think".

just because they are shooting in austrailia doesn't mean the film will be set there. Attack of the clones was filmed in austrailia it wasn't set there was it? lord of the rings was in new zealand but wasn't set there. the opening battle in gladiator was filmed in london but it wasn't set there was it?!

Finally! Someone who shares my sentiments. I live in Australia too, and while I think the Americans are understimating the way the city of Melbourne looks, it's probably best if the film is kept in the New York/Sicily areas for the authenticity.

Welcome in Rukas Exactly Chi Chi! It is for authenticity and nothing else that it should be in Sicily and New York. True, inside scenes could probably shot anywhere (for that matter maybe some outside scenes as well). However, like I said before, if your making a movie about the Sicilian mafia....go to Sicily. Btw Welcome to the Board Rukas ...and truly nothing against Australia. We here are all GF fans and do pay attention to detail such as where GFIV may be filmed. What can I say, we are all addicted. Exactly, I also want to echo Italian's viewpoint. We do pay attention to detail. Sometimes, I think we pay too much attention to detail to a point that it alters FFC motives in the storyline. Therefore, its makes it very hard for us to accept glaring errors. I.e, the Corleone Family: a NYC crime family film location in Aust. The Godfather is a NYC story, not a Austrilian story. No disrespect and i just telling you how I feel, but I am getting sick of forgein countries taking over USA based movie frantises because they cut corners to save money, employ directors that know very little the film. And the sequels are not very good.

Australia was just mentioned as some locations, so how could it be responsible for employing a director that knows very little about the film or cutting corners? Its just a location, not an Australian production. I dont understand where you are coming from at all. Thanks for the welcoming even if my post was a little negative towards some of you hehe Ohh... as for Sicily, a lot of Australia's country side is very similar, i dont think you guys would be able to tell the difference on film. I am thinking though that prehaps Queensland will be used for some Miami scenes as it is also very similar. Regardless, the news post said SOME locations, not ALL. So relax a little Hell for all you know, the story could involve someone actually coming to Australia much like Michael went to Cuba...

Hi, my name is Leigh Di Pietro [Leigh = mothers' influence]. I am happy to say I stumbled upon this site while searching for Mario Puzo Information. I was reading the posts and 'AUSTRALIA' caught my attention. This was the fist I'd heard of a number of things, those being, Godfather Part 4 - is this mere speculation or is that where I've come in to the discussion?, the filming of it in Australia. I kept reading, one post that crept from the screen, snuck up behind me and slipped the garotte slowly and silently over my neck, until . . .sorry, excuse me. 'Oh My God! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo!!!!! This is the worse thing that can possible happen. THE GODFATHER DOWN UNDER!' Considering that I am a new user, I have respect for the obvious regulars of this bulletin board, and therefore will keep my thoughts and comments to myslef, for now. But please in the future, be [trying not to sound like Yoda] mindful of those who lurk in the background. As of today I will be a regular member of this bulletin board, please treat with caution what it is, that you do not know. Besides I'm still getting used to this whole technology stuff. On a more somber note, my comiserations go out to any of those reading whose lives, or the lives of loved ones were adversely affected by the events of 9/11. Sincerley, L. S. Di Pietro

This is waaaay off topic, but The Australian Cattle Dog is the greatest dog, pound for pound, in the world. I had one, and hope to get another in the near future. I agree wholeheartedly with Plawrence...the great thing about this board is diversity . Help and challenge us to remain so.

Sir, I apologize for any undue distress I might have caused you because of the posting of your photos. I was not aware that I was using your bandwidth, nor was I aware that I was breaking any copyright laws. I am not gaining any monetary gain from this post and since I don't have a scanner nor a digital camera, my sole purpose was to make some folks aware of this fine canine breed. I owned and trained my own ACD during the time that it was just entered into the Misc. Category of the AKC. People in NYC would stop me to ask "What mixture is that mutt?". I did not mean to imply that I trained the dogs. I'll delete the post when you've seen this message. I hope you find and similarly lambaste and reprimand those other posters who have less noble reasons to use your photos than mine. BTW, I admire your site very much.

I live in Australia and, while i belive Queensland looks alot like Miami, The Countryside doesn't look like Sicily, Australian country tends to be either flat and grassy or hilly woodland/forest, with very few mountains past the dividing range, which tends to be dense forest, where as sicily tends to be hilly, flant grassland with rocky mountains.
I hate people who are against vengance, they say that killing them won't make the lost come back, the way i see it, if you let them get away with that, they'll do it again and again until you are destroyed.
