Even Robert De Niro who is more Irish than Italian made a great performance.
That's right ! I heard him say that he BECAME Italian when studying his character for "Mean Streets" and started to live in Little Italy and hang out with the local ppl to build his character. He also said he doesn't speak Italian or Sicilian (neither does Pacino) and had a language coach to teach him the right pronunciation.

I don't have anything against Andy Garcia but like some of you pointed out, he's very much involved in Cuban events and every time I watch GFIII it takes me quite some time to "accept" him as a Sicilian character, it's one of the (many) flaws of the movie, yet I love it !

I have to say Kurgan is exactly right. In this subtle role in Ocean's 11 (the best in the movie by the way) Garcia plays a calm, stylishly dressed (very similar to Michael's suits in Part II)tough guy who thinks with his head.

Though this doesn't sound like Vincent Mancini in 1979 - Part III - think how his experiences (Mary's death, Michael's failing health and Connie's anger)could have shaped him into middle age. Recognising Michael's warning about his temper, Vincent could recognise that the only way to regalvanise the Corleone family is by adopting the same composure that kept his uncle at the top for thirty years. And not his father's short temper that got him killed within a few years as Acting Don.

Based on his performance in Ocean's 11 I believe Garcia could do an outstanding job as a middle aged Vincent. Vincent Mancini was born in 1948, so would be in his early fifties if Part IV was set in 2001/2002. I believe Garcia was born in 1956. At 46 he would only have to play a little older as a contemporay Vincent. As long as the new movie is set anytime from 1990 Garcia could be flexible about age.

He wouldn't have to overdo things like Al as Michael who turned from vigorous 50 into one of the oldest looking 63 years I've ever seen. Hell, I believe Al even got his teeth filed down to help. Talk about method acting!!!!!!

I urge everyone to see Ocean's 11 for Garcia and you will realise what Kurgan means.
Incidentally, apart from Andy it's not a great movie - so be warned.

I just hope Coppola is listening out there.

It takes you long to adapt to his performace , i watch the whole movie and can't adapt to him being a Sicilian but to each his own. With that out of the way, Andy becoming Micheal would be very one uninovative and two unacceptable one of the many reasons i didn't like GFIII was that they tried to make it like the first one too much in some ways like they have Vincent kill Zaza because "Al Neri: if Micheal survives this. Vincent:Zaza might not even let uncle Micheal survive this." i think they tried to make it to simular to the first one the same music playing when Vincent was made the Don perhaps they were trying to bring some old magic back but it just couldn't be done. If Micheal was that much like Vito would it be any Entertainment in watching GFII, would there have been a GFII, would it have been as good as it was. It ENDS with GFII NO MORE that was THE CORLEONE empire and it ended with that last shot of micheal the tale of the CORLEONE family ended with Micheal completly unvunarable and having gotten rid of his enemies and chinks in the Corleone family's fortress(all traitors). Well that's what i think at least.

Guinea,

Like I said before, you and I are in complete agreement on the A.G. matter.

However, I still think a GF4 might work if they went back to the Young/Middle aged Vito years. But then again, like someone else said, it might become a soap opera and not a series. However, if anyone could pull it off, FFC could!!

Well i'm glad someone else sees things from perspective. But i don't think a GFIV should be made still that is all.
