some random ideas

imperioli to play paulie..

deniro of course as vito, we'll find out if leo could play sonny when Gangs of NY comes out...

michael, connie, and fredo are way too young to matter much..it's a waste of time to try to cast them...

gandolfini as luca would be a great device to get the film made, but sizemore looks more like lenny montana....that's a brilliant idea

if vince vaughn wasn't 50 feet tall, he might make an interesting sonny, but he's a bit old for the part, too

how about a couple of n sync or backstreet boys a the guys that luca chops up from chicago.....just so we can see it happen...(somebody's got to play that part)

there's should be no kay, but what about sandra???

I think Matthew McConaughey would play great as Tom Hagen. And maybe Lillo Brancato could play Sonny.

queen,

i don't meant be rude, but i don't think lilo brancato would be convincing as the lead in "the lilo brancato story", much less sonny corleone. i know he has experience playing deniro's son, but c'mon....the kid's not much of an actor, and this is a great role...

what about that kid from "bully"...is he old enough???

I'm not sure what role I'd like to see them play...but I'd love to see Marissa Tomei and/or Gina Gerzon in The Godfather Part 4...I've probably mispelled both of their last names, but I think either one could portray a younger Connie or an older Mary. Gina played one of the CBS lawyers in "The Insider" with Al Pacino and Russell Crowe and Old Blue Eyes'first wife in "Sinatra", the miniseries Tina Sinatra produced about her father.

I first saw Anthony LaPaglia in a TV movie called "Nitti" the enforcer, playing Frank Nitti who was Al Capone's sidekick. I always thought he would be right to play Vito Corleone during the 1920, 1930 years. Maybe it's just me but I always saw a resemblence to DeNiro. Acting, may be a whole other story. Just a thought...

No way should Di Caprio play a young Sonny. He's not Sicilian enough. He is a pretty boy who had a good upbringing. He is a good actor but no Sonny, the natural traits are not there. Sorvino is too old to play Clemenza, likewise for Buscemi(although the two would be fantastic). Vin Diesel as Luca? Put Keanu Reeves in there as well. The worst actors in history! What made the Godfather so great was the acting ability of the entire cast. They were all connected to the NY Sicilian scene, so they were able to live the roles. Charlize Theron as Kaye? She's too hot. Kaye was a plain Jane, Charlize is too sexual and too old. Kirsten Dunst might be a better fit. The problem with casting these roles as younger than before, is that there aren't any kids out there who could pull it off. You would have to go back a generation or two. If not, you HAVE TO find a way to bring De Niro back in to the fold, and maybe James Gandolfini and some of the cast of the Sopranos. God I hate Andy Garcia in this series.

sorry there folks, sono un stunat', i was reading backwards to forwards and responded accordingly. i still stand by my words. We have forgotten a very capable actor- John Turturro, he could be a young Vito or Tessio, or even Barzini. Or Riccardo, he could be that lost cousin I was taliking about, Salvatore Lombardo.

How about an all black cast?:
Sonny Corleone- Samuel L. Jackson
Vito Corleone- James Earl Jones
Michael Corleone- Denzel Washington
Thomas Hagen- Morgan Freeman
Luca Brasi- The guy from "Green Mile"

You know, I might have agreed that Leonardo DiCaprio was maybe not right for the part of Sonny. Last week at the movies, I saw previews of "Gangs of New York", and I have to admit, from what I saw, I think he could pull it off. He didn't have that "pretty boy" look. He did look harder/meaner. I think he might just work as Sonny. (Plus he is half Italian. (In spite of his last name, I didn't think he was for some reason, but recently found out he was.)

Kirsten Dunst? The Blonde Cheerleader? To Quote: Dumb Blondes...Hello! Duh! I LOVE Kirsten, but she's NOT Godfather material, LET alone Kay Adams!

Why can't Diane Keaton play Kay?

DREAM CAST GF4

Wasn't Pacino/Brando/Duvall/Castellano/Vigoda/Castellano/Strasberg/Lettieri/Hayden/Marley/Gazzo/Shire enough of a dream cast...?

As for Luca Brasi...Biff Tannen from back To the Future? Joe Pesci?

Black GF4?

Samuel Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Denzel, James Jones are MUSTS.

But wjat about...Family? Keenan and Damon Wayans?

Eddie Murphy?

Stax Edwards from Goodfellas.

Dmx, Master P, Nas

And people to kill....

P. Diddy, Ja Rule, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Xzibit, AHHA nevermind.

John Turturro was aweoem as Aspanu Pisciotta!

I still stand by Kirsten Dumbst. Coppola did say that he loved Keaton's flightiness and eccentricities, I think Dumbst fits that bill. We need a porn Godfather- The RODFATHER. The fact remains that The Godfather films and book, remains the most influential piece of cinematography and book ever. We will not let that legacy die.

There could never be GF4. the Godfather trilogy is Michael's story, a modern greak tragedy: In GF1 Michael comes to power In GF2 he commites the ultimet sin (killing Fredo) and in Gf3 he gets punished by losing his daughter. There couldn't be Godfather without Michael.

No one really seemed to buy my all black cast for Godfather 4. According to Dennis Hopper in the movie "True Romance" Sicillians are descendents of the Moors who were black. At least I think that is what he said, I saw it a long time ago.

So what are you going to do,get a time machine?
Then you could somehow reverse Michaels' looks to that time.

Sounds like the idea of a time machine in Godfather IV isnt too appealing.

"In this brilliant film the viewer feels the emotion as we follow Dr. Mancini back through time 100 years to meet his Great-grandfather, then his Grandfather in the 1930's, then his father in the late 40's, and finally his uncle's lonesome life in the 1960's, as we return to the Present with tears in our eyes in this devoted and creative storyline...Based on Characters created by Mario Puzo."

Calogero if you've read the Sicilian by Puzo it goes into more epth about Sicilians and blacks and Arabians throughout Tunisia, etc.

I can lend a historical treatise on the island of Sicily and its people as well as the Moors; I am of Tunisian and Sicilian descent. Sicily was first inhabited by the phoenicians, a nomad tribe whose origins are obscure but thought to be from africa. Next came the Saraceni (saracens), this is how the sicilians describe the black arabs that inhabited the island also called moors by the americans. The greeks followed, then the romans, the normans(Norse French Vikings), finally this amalgamation was left to stand on its own following the sicilian vespers- the day that the sicilians rose up against norman rule and took back the island. Sicily is the puttana of the mediterranean, everyone wants to sleep with her but no one wants to take her home to mamma. You would be hard pressed to find a black person on the island, but you will see plenty of blondes and redheads. As for no GF4 due to the preceding films... The Godfather was based on the book, the subsequent films were based on screenplays that took the natural path, the rise and fall of Michael, where does that natural path lead us now? The problem is that we no longer have Puzo to write or corroberate with Coppola. I would hate to see the best film series of all time become riddled with bad acting and destroyed by the current crop of no talent, formulaic, screenwriters that have desecrated the cinema. Should it be done? Only if they can do it properly.

I agree, Puzo did his job of writing it. It's up to Paramount to do the rest. Casting, Filming, Producing, etc. DIRECTING, hopefully, FFC will return bu tth echances are 1 in 100, he didn;t even want to do Gf2!

GF3 was for the money.

GF4 would be for what? What would FFC gain by directing a GF4?

I;m for it, but i don't want bad acting, i'd rather just read Puzo's script, then watch a GF4 movie, FFC would just change everything anyway.

you know, i forgot to mention perhaps one of the best performances in a mafia related film/show. the guy who played richie aprile in the second season of the sopranos was unbelievably convincing and scary. he would be a ringer for any mob boss in the next big gangster film.

What is it with these wannabe fictionals ripping off other people's names.

The WHOLE Bella Mafia is about the Lucianos.

Aprile is STRAIGHT from Puzo's Omerta.

Puzo came up with Cuneo and Corleone by using amap, Barzini was the author of a book written in 1910 that Puzo once read, Tattaglia is a rearrange of Battaglia (THe CHiacgo Outfit), and Stracci, I dunno.

Bazzini pops up in Last Don 2, Barzini and Luciano in Bella Mafia.
et's not be creative, let's rip off Puzo and defame Lucky Luciano as being the ascendant of Mafia "Gals".

Couldn't they just be named Richie Provalone, or Marissa Palentino?

There's SO many Italian names you don't need to use a well-known Mafia name to draw attention!

in case anyone didn't already know this, and bear in mind i love puzo, he totally ripped off true stories for his books GF and the Sicilian. There is not an original idea in there, he just really had a knack for getting the information out there to a mass audience. Beyond that, the guy who plays richie aprile is an amazing actor and deserves a good role in any new mob film.

There is a difference between bting/ripping off and fictionalizing real events.

Puzo created most charcter names from scratch. He blended real events into ONE Historical Family's story.

Puzo's The Godfather is fictional, but is a better source of pre-1970 Mafia Knowledge than any REAL Book.

Real Events Puzo blended:
Fruitstand Murder: Frank Costello
Five Families
Castellamare War
Joe Valachi's Trial
Meyer Lansky's Havana Operations
Lansky's aide: Vinnie Alo
Son of a Don becoming Don: Bonnanos
Innocent Man to Electric Chair: Felix Bocchicchio
Eyeball Murder of Bugsy Siegel
Barbershop Murder of Albert Anastasia

and many others

Events Puzo created:
Horse Head in Bed
Killing of a NYPD Captain
Four Dons murdered in 1950's (Rather than 2)

and many others

Bottom Line: Puzo blended a near-complete History of the Mafia into one Story.

Bella Mafia and Soprano shav etheir own unique stories but settled on the specific names to gain attention rather than rely on their story to draw attention.

Godfather: Puzo blends a history of the Mafia into one classic story.

Bella Mafia: The women of the LUCIANO family

The Sopranos: HBO's R-Rated Tv Series of a Mafia Family in our times.

Sopranos didn't need a charcter anmed Richie Aprile to draw attention, they coudl agve used Richie Parile

Bella Mafia ws unknown and attarcted attention from th enam eLuciano.

Godfather didn't need ANY Real names to draw attention.

Comparing Bella Mafia and the Sopranos to The Godfather is a homocide waiting to happen.

keep in mind, without those 'borrowed themes' puzo never writes the godfather, plain and simple. as for the sicilian, he just rewrote the events and did not even bother to change the names. btw, you have some great ideas for the next film, keep running with it!

IS The Sicilian fiction? Or is it Puzo's secret biography of Salvatore Giuliano disguised as fiction? The events were REAL, the names were REAL.

Question for Turi..How popular is The Sicilian in SIcily? The book, not the Moovie! MOO!
