someone mentioned earlier that if the GF4 would have been made, then there would have been one last scene with Michael. He would meet with Garcia and discuss some issues...

If I had control over a GF4, I would make mainly about the past... I would use flashbacks for the time between Vito's revenge in Sicily and GF1, a short period between GF1 and GF2. Quite a bit between GF2 and GF3, showing Michaels children becoming closer to thier mother and how Michael legitimizes his bussiness's and then one final scene with Vincent as Don, but fairly old. His son has just become a Senator, Vito's last wish...

thats a good idea tony, but i dont think theres any chance of a part 4 after what happen to part 3. But if they do make it, it better top them all because thats what weve been waiting for

Every Time I watch the godfather... it always feels like there should be more to the story.... but i think it would be very hard espacially since Mario Puzo, the auther died....

The film, if it were ever made (and I don't think it should), should not under any circumstances be called "The Godfather Part IV". Remember how FFC wanted Part III to be called "The Death of Michael Corleone" to set it apart from the first two films? With hindsight, I believe that FFC was totally right. Part III was different, but the audiences expected more of the same, resulting in (unjustified) disappoinment. It is hard to see any 'Part IV' being in the same league as the trilogy, so perhaps for that reason alone, it should have another name. It can be a spin-off (that is usually negative, but it needn't be in this case) from the original, developing some of the main characters. How about, "The Rise of Sonny Corleone"?
"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart."

I know people are coming up with other names besides the godfather... i know francisFC wanted to call gf3 the death of micheal corleone... but i think any other name besides the gf4 would never be the same.... i think it should be called the gf4 if it is ever to be made....

I like the idea of a spin off... But I think another film is totally out of the question, so they should make a mini-series... FFC could write and direct, while unknown's could play the parts of Vito, Sonny, Michael etc, with cameo's from Caan, Pacino, Duvall, DeNiro, Brando etc...
It would be cool...

Michael doesn't die untill 1997, and since GF3 was set in 1980, theres still 17 years to develop a story around his character and Vincents...
Plus you could have Kay, Anthony etc...

I said it before and i will say it again. GF4 should be done in the flashback mould again, with the rise of Vito Corleone, in the wars with the Irish etc, in the period between GF1 and GF2, coupled with the downward spiral of the family with Vincent as its leader, caught up in the narcotics trade. Robert De Niro as Vito. Andy Garcia as Vincent. Simple. You could call it the rise and fall of the corleone family. It would be great. there are a whole host of actors you could use in the film from nowadays too.

im not sure about having a gf4, if it was done right, id be all for it, but since Mario Puzo wouldnt be in on it, id have to say no... but instead of gf4, how about having a prequil(sp??) like their doing with star wars, id prefere that to any gf4 that just had flashbacks. do the whole story based on vitos sire after killing don cicci. of course you would have to cast completly new people, i doubt people would buy it if deniro played a "young" vito.

Wouldnt be hard to do as the parts the people would play would be older, and therefore viable. I think the film would hinge on the ability of Garcia to hold down an even more major part, and I am not sure if he could.

GF3 did suck, but some scenes kicked ass.. The Atlantic City Massacre, and The Joey Zaza killing scene...

Sixth rule of Fight Club, no shirt, no shoes. Seventh rule of Fight Club, fights go on as long as they have to. It is greedy to ask for another Godfather. It could be done but I would bet all the money I have on it being very inferior to the trilogy. I wouldnt even settle for a good Godfather film.

Hi!
It shouldn't happen, I pray it won't: the circle is made, the story is over. What else could Puzo and Coppola tell us? I can't know.
But it's a definite mark of a piece of art that one's soul is sad to see that it all ends, and craves for more.
In fact, this long and delicious aftertaste is something to savour, to cherish, to warm to... just takes a while getting used to it.
But Coppola didn't say "no".
Best regards.
Alexander

The Godfather Part IV would be overkill. I like the trilogy as it is, and even GFII was on the edge (although some people think it was over).
Who would write it? Puzo is dead. Who would play it? Andy Garcia? That's a possibility, what would be the story? Special event to open (marriage, first communion, order of San Sebastian), some gangsters plotting against Corleone, some special event in the end (baptism, opera) where all the crooks are killed?
No, the recipe of the Godfather is good, but another more movie would be a parody on itself. Sorry for those who are in favour, but it has ended in beauty.

Beacause Paramount owns all the rights to the movies, couldnt they just decide one day to make a GF4 whether FFC wanted to or not? They could just hire a new director and writers. Or does Coppola have any say at all?

I wih they'd turn GF4 script into book too. MP's daughter could finish off.
Somebody came up with the perfect title "The Godfather: The Lost Years". What a great Title!
Circumstances leading up to Antonio Andolini's death. Genco Olive Oil's rise to the Corleone Family after Don Ciccio is assassinated. Roth, Greene, Ola, Vito run molasses from Havana to Canada. Moe Greene frontiers Las Vegas. Sonny finds Tom. Vito meets Luca. Luca meets Johnny's bandleader. Corleone Family moves to Long Island. Clemenza's troubles with the Rosato brothers. Las Vegas: Lucy Mancini and Jules Segal. Francesco Molinari teaches Fredo about gambling. Fredo meets Deanna Dunn. Tom Hagen's death. Micheal's last years as Don in the 1970's. The new Five Families: Albert Volpe, Frank Romano, Leo Cuneo, Marty Parisi, and Willi Cicci. Rise of Joey Zasa, and Vincent Mancini. Vincent Mancini continues the Family up to 1997 when Micheal dies, then its OVER, make sure the movie answers ALL of our questions.

I think I might have mentioned it before, but far more interesting than the Sonny/Vincent parallel storyline would be a look at how and why Michael changed between Parts II and III.
Of course, this would be nigh on impossible from an artistic point of view (but then, who could have thought Part II could out-do Part I?), but it makes for a fascinating hypothesis.
You could be far more inventive coming up with a script for Part IV using the Sonny and Vincent idea, but the period between 1959 and 1979 needs to be insanely complex, mature and sophisticated. It would perhaps need to be better then the Part II script to be as successful, given what it has to acheive.

Originally posted by Sermanni: It is greedy to ask for another Godfather. It could be done but I would bet all the money I have on it being very inferior to the trilogy. I wouldnt even settle for a good Godfather film. Sermanni, I wholeheartedly agree. Something tells me that each additional Godfather installment would follow the downward spiral pattern. That means that GF4 would be worse than GF3. But what do I know?

Bravo, PersianGodfather, exactly what i was going to say, the two years in between Gf1 and GF2 Nevada would be a possible mini-series with Clemenza and Rosatos and such. Not even anhour of film even. But as gor the post, If you read the book, you already know what happens between 1925 and 1945. What we DON'T know, where FFC or anybody else could create a whole new story is 1960-1978. THe Corleone children grow up, Tom Hagen dies, Joey Zasa rises to the top, Michael gets VERY old, THIS is a way to make a WHOLE NEW story, without it being another modern mob movie, post-1980.

Part of the script has been made, I think.
Perhaps Puzo's daughter could finish it. Or maybe Omerta could be mix in some way with the script already made by puzo
Vincent Corleone instead of Astorre?? What do you think? Just ideas, I'm not trying to convince you.
Cheers
