Wow!

Herrmann ranks (IMO) along with Max Steiner, Franz Waxman, Ennio Morricone, John Williams and a few others I'll probably think of after I post this as one of the absolute top-tier film composers.

Signor V.

"For me, there's only my wife..."

"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"

"It was a grass harp... And we listened."

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

Hermann's first movie score was for "Citizen Kane." One of his best efforts was a partial soprano aria for "Salammbo," an opera to be sung by Kane's wife. It's an incredible piece of music:

I realize this is a bit of thread-drift, but I have to put in a word (or words) for two of my favorite film scores:

Bride of Frankenstein by Franz Waxman

King Kong by Max Steiner

It's been restored on the TCM print.
